Looking at what we have I would do the following:

First Teamers - In and around the starting XI
Harris
Brayford
Basham
Murphy
Scougall - needs a good pre-season. disappointed this time
Baxter
Done
Coutts - needs a good pre-season but there's a player in there
Reed
Freeman
Adams
S. Davies - need to sign him

Backups - Squad players
Howard
Alcock
Flynn
Doyle - should remain as club captain although will play less
McNulty (However, if Clough stays I think he'll leave)
Willis
Kennedy
Dimaio - Get him out on loan to a high end L2 or low end L1 side until October/November
Holt - technically good, but needs to be involved more throughout the game

Sell
Collins - Should have played this season. Should move on now
B Davies - Pointless signing really. Expected more
McEveley - Did Ok. Maybe he could be a backup as he can play LB or CB. Not a starter going forward
Higdon - Very disappointed with him. Expected so much more
Turner - don't need
Long - hasn't stepped up and has received mixed reviews during loans
Campbell Ryce - End product isn't good enough. The final pass has cost us all season and he is the main culprit. Adams will be better
De Girolamo - Would like him to stay but mind sounds made up

Undecided
J. Wallace - if fit, he can stay
K. Wallace - doesn't seem good enough
Cuvelier - see James Wallace
McGahey - Maybe another loan spell

To buy
New GK
2 x CBs
Box-to-Box midfielder
Better backup striker to replace Higdon

I think I'd add all your undecided to the 'Out' pile. I'd be tempted to keep Campbell-Ryce but I'm sure we won't.

In addition I wouldn't sign Steven Davies. He may be better than what we have but he's not good enough. I'd get shut of Scougall, not sure about signing Holt or not. I'd probably move Doyle on, too.

In - we need at least two Centre Halves, as you say. The new GK should be the starter, Howard has played like the Ancient Mariner this season, he stoppeth one of three.

Depending on how we play, we need at least one more Centre Forward, if not two. Also a midfield presence.

I'm undecided on Coutts, I don't feel like he played bad last night but that was probably been one of his brighter performances for us which is disappointing. I like Ben Davies and thought he performed better than most when given a chance but I don't know if he's what we need.

Definitely need those centre halves, we could probably make do with one. Box-to-box midfielder is essential but I think for strikers were alright as long as we sign Davies. Mostly because our wingers are versatile e.g. Flynn wasn't bad in his game up top, Murphy is more than capable and also Adams and Campbell-Ryce can play striker. Oh, and we have the slightly inconsistent McNulty as well as Done who I've really enjoyed watching since we first got him.

Che Adams needs to start more often than not next season, I think he's a good talent and can only develop further.

Your too generous

First Teamers - In and around the starting XI
Brayford - bad injury, may be back up when he's back?
Basham
Murphy
Flynn
Done
Coutts - needs a good pre-season but there's a player in there [not sure, hope his strength improves]
Reed
Adams

Backups - Squad players
Howard
Harris
Freeman
Kennedy - need to check those knees

Sell/Get Rid
Collins
Alcock
Scougall
Baxter
Doyle
McNulty
Willis
Dimaio
Holt
S. Davies

B Davies
McEveley
Higdon
Turner
Long
Campbell Ryce
De Girolamo
J. Wallace
K. Wallace
McGahey

Undecided
Cuvelier

To buy
New GK
2 x CBs
RB [if Brayford struggles like Coutts]
LB
Box-to-Box midfielder [Basham will do that, need a ball player]
2 x Strikers

The sell/Get rid list is too long, that's why we only made the play offs.
I'd also suggest its why Clough did so much chopping and changing. We don't have the players who can influence a game week in, week out.

I would get rid of Baxter out of that list and keep Flynn and Howard ,hope for Wallace J and Cuvelier to get fit.

For me

Stay:

Murphy
Done
Brayford
Basham (as CDM)

The rest - cheerio

We need a complete investment in most areas to make us a Championship side. That mentality is the only way we are going to get out of this division and move on - and stay there. No point in trawling the Scottish leagues for players who 'look good' against Scottish clubs but who are completely out of place in the English Third Division. We need two decent kepers ... bring Long back as well. We need a complete restocking of our back four with six or seven solid defenders who are versatile and can break play up. We need three midfield powerhouses (not too old either) who can keep up with the pace of the game and utilise space. We need three or four wing attackers (like Murphy) who pin defences back and who can actually cross a ball. And finally we need two devastating finishers who ensure the opposition back four don't have an easy afternoon out in the sun.

Get your fucking hand in your pocket, McCabe.

Put Adams and a few of the young uns in with them, anybody who disagrees with the above is content with L1

Need 2 new centre halfs, one being someone with experience and good quality to partner Kennedy. Would also get another centre mid to partner Basham, not fair to ask Reed to be the man all season. And also we need a proven goalscorer who's going to get at least 15+ goals to partner Done

Pre-season isn't a magic cure for players with poor injury records . I wish people would stop extolling its restorative effects.

Forget Kennedy mate, as much as we all like Terry, his injuries are career threatening and he shouldn't be regarded as a serious candidate for selection.

We need a new pairing in the middle of defence, an uncompromising, fearless pair who do the simple things well.

We need someone better than Kennedy, not a partner for him.

As for Reed, it's not fair to ask the fans to watch him on his recent performances.

Shall we assess players realistically in future and set aside this silly Bladey wishful thinking?

Indeed. Just because Kennedy has a better points per game record than any other CB we've fielded this season (over 2 which I believe is promotion form) it's surely only Bladey Blades that would except that as a criteria for getting a game.

Personally think Kennedy if he stays fit has the potential to be a decent centre back

Maybe a little harsher

First Teamers - In and around the starting XI
Harris - needs to improve defensively though
Brayford - as a RB
Basham - as a MF
Murphy
Done
Adams

Backups - Squad players
Howard
Flynn - RB and RMF cover.
Freeman - needed for RB while Brayford injured.
McNulty - needs to improve
Coutts - if fit - otherwise move on. Not the player he was on this season's showing.
Cuvelier (if fit)- otherwise move on.
J. Wallace - if fit, otherwise move on.
Reed - not ready for a full season I don't think.

Baxter - not a main starter but useful for variation and sub - sell if someone offers half way decent money for him.

Willis - loan
S. Davies - not good enough if they want a load of money for him.
Scougall - needs to improve - otherwise move on.

Dimaio - loan
McGahey - loan

Sell
Alcock - doesn't offer enough attacking options at FB, too short for CB.
Collins - no point paying wages to a bloke who won't get a game.
B Davies - nothing to offer and wrong end of career.
McEveley - slow and error prone
Higdon - Waste of money
Turner - Not good enough
Long - hasn't stepped up and way down the pecking order.
Doyle - no new contract. Legs have gone.
Campbell Ryce - End product isn't good enough and at the end of career.
De Girolamo - Would like him to stay but doubt he will.
Holt - too small, send back
Kennedy - too short and his knees sadly
K. Wallace - not good enough

To buy
New GK
3 x CBs
LB cover.
Defensive midfielder (with legs) that can pass
Creative fit midfielder
2 Strikers - one as back-up (could be Davies)

Personally I think Kennedy is a decent centre half, but he can't play two games in a week. His knee is royally fucked. It wouldn't surprise me if he was forced to retire by the time he's 25. He's 21 and he's only been able to make 18 first team league appearances and has been out injured for around 18 months since he turned 18. Such a shame for the kid.

Our feeder club Derby county have just released several players, what odds a few will be making the short journey up the A38/A61?

Wouldn't take much to take the current squad up, two decent (and big) centre halves would do it...

oh, and a manager who knows what he's doing!
