I recently received the old 81-83 away shirt as a present - the brown and yellow Bentleys one. Chuffed to bits with it obviously, it's a beauty.
Anyway, it’s got 5 on the back as this is the number I sport.
Can anyone tell me who donned this shirt for us around that time?

Similar question:
I have a white (long sleeve), with red round collar and cuffs, away shirt with the number 7 on the back. The badge is the old Sheffield emblem (pre-crossed swords).
Any ideas?

Probably Woodward if it is pre Sea Cutlass days.
Woody was still with us when the badge changed and we got those shirts that had the thin back stripe next to the red.

Agree with the others about MacPhail for the number 5 shirt.
However, it could have crossed with Paul Stancliffe towards the end of that period. Darren or Silent will be the best to confirm.

Players who wore the number 5 shirt in that period were:

81-82 John MacPhail, Stewart Houston and John McAlle - MacPhail wore it about half the games and Houston and McAlle about a quarter each.

82-83. John MacPhail and Gary West. MacPhail started the season as the regular no 5, but lost his place to West in around Oct-Nov and went on loan to York (and was later sold to them). Houston may have warned it in the odd game as well that season.

I'll bet he gave it a reight tellin' off Darren.

Bloody hell! n Sign of senilty that - having one word in your mind and typing another!

Incidentally I think Trusson wore the no.5 shirt in the game v Lincoln on 7/5/83 :-)

According to the United Bible, yes he did. Haven't seen Andy Kirkham for a while incidentally. What an absolute top geek he is!
