Having seen a quote from Chris yesterday about which players we have he thinks could play in the championship, it got me thinking. This is all hypothetical - obviously.
Just how many of our players do you think could play, and do well, in the championship?
I think the championship is tiered now, much like the Prem. You have a top 7/8 - then you have the rest. I think there's only Fleck who on his day could play at that level. None of the others have shown that level of quality YET.
I think the following could handle the championship as a first teamer:
Moore
Freeman
JOC
Wright (in a 3, surprise package)
Basham?
Coutts
Fleck
Duffy
Carruthers (already has!)
Sharp
Then you have potentially Lavery after a first team run. Potentially you've got Ramsdale, Brooks and Whiteman up and coming. It has the bones of a decent set up. We'd need to add plenty and not sit on our laurels, no room for sentiment anymore.
We can't do what Wigan did and pull the team apart, you lose all the momentum and the spirit we've built. We'll have to trust in what's got us there but add the necessary quality to keep us there. I think it's a step too far for Scougall, Lafferty, Done and Clarke to be honest. Basham I've put with a question mark cos I'm not sure.
One thing is for sure, if we get there - there should be a statue of Wilder and Knill put up in the car park.
