Several threads today discussing the center mid position and Doyle etc. This is more specifically for Elliot Whitehouse.

For those who have seen Whitehouse play, what's he like?

I know he's scored a lot in the youth team/reserves, especially during the youth cup final season. Could he make the step up? What type of midfielder is he - the Monty type or is he a creative/confident type of center mid?

By 'Monty type' do you mean "useless non-footballing shadow-chaser"? He was a very promising all round midfielder when he captained the cup final team. Then injury set him back and he hasn't progressed as expected. If he was ready for first team action he wouldn't be on loan at York.

We've got Scougall, Coady and McGinn. Why do we need to consider Whitehouse? This belongs to the "give Young Joe a chance" school of wishful thinking. Professional football is not the X Factor. If the kids are good enough they'll force themselves into the team. The onus is on them, not the club.

Have you seen him play?

The times ive seen whitehouse play I was very impressed with his passing and vision as well as his strength and confidence on the ball , think there is a player there

I agree with what you say I watched him a good few games at youth level and to be honest i thought he would be a youngster who would progress but he had the injury which has held him back.
Hopefully the spell at York has helped and i for one would love to see him chasing a first team spot.
Is'nt thats what having a youth policy is all about

Thing about youngsters is, everybody wants them to be the new Giggsinho. So every little thing they do decent is magnified ten-fold. An older player has a good game, well he's supposed to. A kid has a good game and he can then do no wrong for the rest of the season and beyond. He will find his level in league two i reckon. Slim chance he may make a decent Championship player in 3 or 4 years, but unlikely. And we don't really have 3 or 4 years to spend finding out. He probably needs to drop to league two or non-league and try to work his way up.

Yes, indeed I have. It's obvious from what I said previously. I saw Ironside as well and observed his conspicuous limitations whilst the rest of you were shouting "Ironside....Ironside" at the top of your voices and demanding he be first name on the teamsheet.

Settle down Pinchy. All I asked was what is he like? I'm not shouting from the roof tops for him to be included, nor am I saying he must be considered. Was just asking what is he like as I haven't ever seen him play other than in the youth cup final.

Coady will most likely return at the end of this season and Doyle is ageing, just wanted to know if Whitehouse had the potential to make the step up.

I was expecting him to be the next regular in the squad before his injury, but I've not seen much of him since.

It'll have done him good to be playing regularly at York.

Fantastic energy and always seemed to have a knack at arriving into the area at the right time.
