Article from this weekend's Football League Paper about our 1983/84 team. Quite a few coppers...

Great spot. Some of my boyhood heroes there. Me and a few mates the worse for wear had the pleasure of running into Joe Bolton in the 80s in a chippy on Abbeydale Road - great bloke, great chest!

Remember seeing Paul Smith getting out of his old Ford Fiesta in the South Stand car park when he was reporting for training. He's probably earning more now as a copper.

Wonder how many of today's team will have to ever work again let alone take jobs as lorry drivers, car salesmen and coppers.

Can someone paste it on here so i can have a look at it, i'd love to see it

Thanks for posting this, Coops. 1983-4 was one of my favourite Blades seasons.

The bit about players not in the picture is a bit odd. I note some of the players they mention (Curran, King, Young and Broddle, and possibly Richardson and Houston) actually didn't play competitively that season, and in most cases had departed during pre season, and there's no mention of Philliskirk or Tomlinson despite the fact they both played more than half the games after getting in the side.

I remember listening to the BBC radio commentary of that match in my first year at University at Nottingham.
Other mates who were Bolton, Spurs, Stoke, and Chester fans were all glued to it with me.

I recall that Hull dominated the game with wave after wave of attacks but only managed to win 2-0, one goal short of their target. If ever the phrase squeaky bum was appropriate that was it.

Some great times when Porterfield was in charge. Lower division stuff but very exciting and could't Keith Edwards finish or what?

Curran wasn't in that team - complete twat. Hated it when he pulled on the red and white.
