Spare a thought for Halifax supporters, Grimsby, Bristol Rivers, Torquay, Wrexham, Aldershot, Lincoln City, Chester.

They've still got loyal fans, frustrated and passionate, even to this day.

Total respect tinged with a sadness, that's how I feel for them.

We should respect where we are and hope for better things. It could have got worse. So difficult to look forward and not back..

I would mention Portsmouth but at least they had some good times! Even harder for them to look forward though.

In the Prince we depend.

How do you depend in a prince ? Is that like pinnochio when he ended up in that big whale ?

Great grammatical point and well judged, judge.. How would you phrase it ? I can't improve it, not in a catchy way .

The demise of Portsmouth and Blackpool come to mind . Lack of transparency , openness and full of spin . Who actually owns the club , false promises . Thankfully this cannot be levelled to Sheffield United Football Club.

I cannot respect were we are , because we shouldn't be there in the first place . This season is to defining moment in the Blades history . To me it is shit or bust , Hoping things get better - time will tell . Destiny is in Mr Clough and the Boards hands . Us fans can only sit back and enjoy or hate the ride.

Every club has a level where the clubs fans can be realistic, like ours is atleast mid to top of Championship, atleast,so in this respect it's fair to say we are underachieving.Whereas some of the clubs you mention are at the level where you'd expect them to be.

Not really sure what point you're making. Are you saying we should be positive about our current position?

I feel more sorry for fans whose expectations have fallen so greatly, they forget how genuinely exciting being a football fan can be.
I have to admit i was thinking exactly the same!

I'm saying we should respect where we are and look to progress from there upwards.

No club is too great to be in the third tier. Big clubs have been there and used it as a springboard.

Some are still there. Take Coventry for example, their fans will be pleased to stay up this season. They were Prem not long ago.

United have been lower. Respect where we are and never presume we will not drop lower. Without the big ownership changes it might well have happened last season.

Misleading title then. I respect our league position, I certainy don't feel positive about it though!

As I have said before on here, Pompey are a bit unique. They have had investors, Milandric, Gaydemak are but two, but the reality and limitations of a tiny-ground club in a big city became evident.

When you make investments, bring in a top manager and furnish the first team with able players (at expense) and then realise your max capacity is about 19000 despite you winning silverware and playing in Europe, then its no wonder these investors decide the money aint coming in to pay back this investment.

So in Pompey's case it was 'build a new ground' (because Fratton Park is garbage as a town centre venue - possibly was great back in the 1920s-30s but now?) out on the outskirts, or sell the players and take the drop.

The council stood in the way of developing anywhere except Fratton Park.

The second happened and the investors flew the nest when it was beneficial for them.

For Sheffield United, we have a 32000 stadium (and in our PL days we averaged 28000+ and could easily fill it for big games and even expand the ground) - all we have to do is buy good players, win matches, climb the tables and stay there.

There are so many clubs that have won the league and cups and they have fallen on hard times. Burnley for example were above Mancs in the quest for honours.
Me I can wait for our turn. I've been doing it for over seventy fucking years

When I was a mere sprog, Pompey were winning the first Division Title for fun and were in every book and magazine. They missed the boat pommpey. The mancs eventually got their snouts in front in the development stakes, As you say 19k isn't enough. It hardly buys carrots for the horse. and It looks like a Wendy United situation with, dare I say it the Merchant boys being favoured.

"They won the Title I think from memory two years running in the lat forties"

"Sheffield council mirrored The term cut of nose to spite face comes into mind. Surely an agreement, let alone an investment from the council would have saved the day?

The second happened and the investors flew the nest when it was beneficial for them.

"Business business my boy" Then they moved on to a ditto repeatol"

We've played teams mentioned in the OP so many times when they were at our level.

Grimsby always a hard place to go - for fans and players. Tough crowds near docks always.

Anybody remember the away game at Halifax when the ref took off the players due to a thunderstorm? It had n ever happened before and we were gobsmacked.

On the way to Pompey one year we learned we'd signed Alan Young for big money. We'd already signed Terry Curran and the big times were upon us. Suppose it's not just about signing big names or talisman strikers. They have to be some good! That day was the first time we'd ever paid 20 quid for a seat x4 for the family, no half prices. We lost I seem to recall.

Bristol crowds always tough buggars.

Think we went there for the Watney Cup Final, again big times rolled. McAlister watched all penalties in the shoot-out hit the net without hardly moving a muscle.

Happy days.

At least the fans in this division are not fair weather fans, like those who support Man U or City or Chelsea and the rest, and the minute they are not in the top 6 decide their support should be with the most fashionable club of the moment.

It's those "fans" I feel sorry for.

I would love United to be one of the top 6, but then we would start to attract our own batch of fickle 'expert supporters'.

Truth is, you have to feel the pain to really enjoy the good times, however ordinary some of those good times might be.

I was there too and agree that McAlister never got near of the Rovers penalties. Two months later he brilliantly saved two penalties by one of the best penalty takers in the land, Alan "sure shot" Hinton!

Easy isn't it :)

Yep. It won't come from failed promises and sitting on cash in the bank, hoping supporters will forget about it. That £2.5m should have gained interest by now. How is being spent, anyone?

We are 2 divisions below where we should be.
Are Torquay, Halifax and many of the rest!?
It is our fans who are suffering compared to them

Actually we do NOT have to sign good players.
It's a lot easier than that.
We just have to stop giving away the good players we develop!
