If we go down, you've got to remember that our name will help us even with no money. We will be one of the biggest 3 clubs in there with Wednesday and possibly Southampton. Attendances - even if they drop - will be much larger than other teams. This has to help us as we can afford the wages to attract what should be Championship quality. To be fair, Wednesday got Championship quality but the mental state is also important. If we go down there and think we're 'Billy Big Bollocks' then we will get found out. That's what happened with Forest, Leeds, Wednesday twice, Saints. Norwich and Leicester didn't do that - yes, the media focused on them a little but they avoided the pitfalls of saying 'We're too good for this league!' that the Massives, Leeds and Forest said. I think we're on a par with Southampton when they dropped. The finances are key. If - as we were told - the debts are controlled via Tevez, we've just got to set our budget with 15,000 attendances and make sure we're within it. If we get better crowds (I was young but we were getting 17/18000 in our last season there weren't we?) then that money could go to loans later in the season that could be the final piece in the jigsaw.
The key is getting the high earners off the wage bill. Monty, Henderson, Ched, Quinn spring to mind immediately. We can't afford all of them. Personally, I would push our efforts into getting rid of Monty, Quinn and Hendo and keep Ched if possible. He is working hard and I think is showing that he could be the man in League 1 next season. He does owe us big time and thats the point I'd make to him. Yes, since Christmas, he's done well but he took a long time to settle and he is paid well and he owes us a 25 goal season if we go down.
It's also imperative that we identify the kids who are ready for the squad next season. We need an experienced first 14/15/16 but then the kids need to be used. Injuries = get kids on the bench then in the team.
Just my thoughts. I think if we get our house in order, our League 1 stay will be short. I can see a situation where United and Wednesday slug it out for the title next season.
