What's up with Beattie?

How dissapointing was he!
He just didn't look bothered at all. Thought with a new manager that ALL the lads would be out to prove themselves, obviously not.
Not really sure where he was supposed to be playing either, he was so far away from Sharpe, he just didn't provide support. He was almost sitting in midfield but he wasn't chasing back when The Blades were defending.
I just didn't get it.
The Hulse change came very late for me but at least the two front boys played closer together after Beattie went off.
Thought the effort from the rest of the lads was great and nice to see some passion from the bench.

I reckon it could be fitness, he's been pretty much rushed back into action. Just needs a bit of time to re-sharpen himself.

we have stepped the tempo up from robsons style of play, and just coming back from injury too cant have helped.

Talked to 5 Blades fans today and they all thought he did ok.

I thought he was ok too......came closest to scoring.

He wasn't lazy when he ran the length of the pitch after giving the ball away.

He does far more off the ball than people give him credit for.

I hate the fact people call Beattie lazy, they really don't watch him when he's making off the ball runs and legging it back to defend.
He I not and never has been lazy in my opinion.
Now, being not 100% match fit, thats a different matter. I don't think he is at the moment so thats the only reason I can see for him waining a bit in the second half of recent matches.

He said it himself the other day that he's not match fit and working his way back, so it's understandable at the moment.

He'll be back to his old self soon enough I reckon, one goal and they'll start flying in.

Yes, I thought he won (dare I say it?) every header. Bader-legs a little bit but I don't think it's anything to worry about. I'd also imagine being the biggest earner brings with it it's own pressures and wouldn't want a "lazy" tag attached to him and for me he does a tonne of running - too much sometimes. Very harsh to call him lazy - the very opposite I'd say.

I was at the game!

A few years ago I went to watch Man Utd v Southampton, Man Utd won 6-1 and Beattie was on the losing side. He never stopped. I was a Man Utd fan in those days and I wanted him at Utd after that incredible performance.
Sundays game was the first time I have seen him since then and I was looking forward to seeing him play.
I appreciate he is coming back from injury and I do rate him but what I can't abide is lack of effort. The fact is Billy was chasing down every ball and if he won it there was no-one to pass to as Beattie hadn't tried to make up the ground to give him support.

Beattie is comparable to what Shearer started doing as he hit the 28+ mark, he realised there was no point chasing balls in to the corners all the time and let others do that.

He did the work when he needed to though and was very effective that way.

Beattie is not currently fit and didn't do all that much on Sunday in my opinion, hopefully we will see a return of him doing his beat for the team again soon though.
