This is not an expectations thread about promotion etc just so you know, is was thinking more pre and post match, we all got used to blackwells excuses both before and after matches, so personally i want him to be honest after games admit if you were poor or if we played badly but won. The same goes for good performances i always like to see a manager acknowledge when his team has done well and played good football. That brings me to the style of play, i hope it is totally different to blackies style no long ball i don't think we have to players for that now even in boggy. I don't expect to much in his first game in charge i think he will use the upcoming international break to get to grip with tactics and formations. I am only posting this because our next game is on the tv and we should see interviews before and after the game even if you are setting sky +.

I hope he will succeed as manager and the board back him as much as possible.

Well, most importantlt is to firstly grind out results to keep us away from the depths of the division, but gradually employ tactics that best suit the individual players and team collectively. Hopefully this will be a much better spectacle than those of the previous managerial occupant.

Honesty with interviews and being able to hold respect from the fans by not spouting bullshit and excuses every time we lose and / or play like a set of numnuts.

Gradual improvement on and off the pitch.

Better football, and promotion.

If he delivers that then he can come and take a shit in my letterbox for all i'd care.

I really don't understand why people get so vexed about what managers say in press conferences, post-match interview etc.

Well highbury, it's because they treat the fans like total idiots!!! Some of us aren't!!!!

I agree totally. he could do worse than listen to a few of Mr O'driscolls interviews. A refreshing bit of honest and truth (unlike Hoofy) would sit well with the fans.

I dont expect him to bad mouth individual players, that could prove counterproductive in the long run, but if weve had a stinker then say so and be honest and opologise to the fans!!! No more of this my lads gave me everything today but the wind/colour of the ball/ref/linesman/snow/pressure of the ball/ time of kickoff/ fans/ etc ..... were against us excuses.

Honesty will build respect.

I don't think it's necessarily honesty, it's more sending everyone to sleep so they can't critisise what you then go on to say :D

I want him to make me want to come to games again.

I dont expect miracles from him straight away, nor do I necessarily expect promotion this season. The first and most important thing is that we get as many points on the board as possible early doors to make the manager's job easier (and the team's obviously).

The next thing I want to see is Bramall Lane becoming a fortress again. Whatever the style of football I want to see us impose ourselves on the opposition at home for large portions of the game. It is important we build on the strength of good home form.

As far as the football goes I want to see us use the ball better in attacking areas. I dont think anyone expects us to play like Arsenal, but what most of us want to see (to quote the manager) is United passing the ball better in the right areas. More thoughtful football is what I want to see. It doesnt have to be one touch majestic stuff....just more method and better individual movement off the ball. That will come in time though and we have to be patient in that respect because Speedo has to undo a lot of old habits.

If United challenge for the playoffs this year and play more effective entertaining football, I will be happy. Even if we finish 8th/9th....as long as we look like we're making progress in our approach then I'll settle for that. Its a tough league this year and we will do well to compete up the top end. We need to give the gaffer time though, a new manager learning the job is unlikely to transform us overnight but I do think he can learn quickly.
