I didn't go so will not comment on the performance.

We played a bottom three side, how would we fare if we did get up?

Watched West Ham at Villa and I thought West Ham were a lot better than us.

I can't help feeling that we would fall very short in The Prem if we did get there. I know we would have money coming in but would the club [or McCabe] actually spent it?

We lost in a disappointing cup game away against a PL side. It means nothing outside of the result itself.

When we get promoted, we won't be keeping the same squad, thats for sure...

It showed us Grumpy that promotion is something you should not be worrying about.

Why do you not think that we will keep the majority of this squad? I bet that if went up this year we would start with a team that consisted of, Morgan, Monty, Harper, Quinn, Ward, Williamson, Evans and probably Cresswell. Paddy would probably be in goal. Walker would be back at Spurs and who knows who would play left back and centre defence with Morgan. We would probably pick up a couple of good championship players and a player from a club on the way out of the Premiership.

1)It showed we are a mediocre team in a mediocre league. we are a club that is frightened to death of the finances and the implications of being 'ambitous.

2)It shows us that even though Bolton are not a top Premiership club they are still better than us.

3) It showed us yet again that at the big games United bottle it, its no reflection on this manager, others have done exactly the same.

4) It shows us that next season in the Championship we will experience average crowds like Boltons, i.e. empty stadium.

5) it shows us that the supporters hope and optimism never triumphs over the reality of what is served up for us.

5) it shows us that we are the eternal optomists as most of us will be at BDTBL on Tuesday for the Reading game.

6) Unfortunatly it also shows that my wife might just be correct in her analysis of 'Why do you Bother'.

I think this is the best post i've ever read on here !

Well said apart from point 3
Last season I personally hold Blackwell responsible for the Wembley debacle! but I agree that Warnock did the same in 2003

you can add kendall onto that list as well

Have we somehow lost league points by being knocked out of the cup?

Should Manchester United now not be worrying about an assault on the league title?

For gods sake Foxy stop being rational. We've lost a game s the worlds going to be destroyed by a big asteroid called Blackwell and we're all going to die - die I tell you
:eek::eek::eek::eek:

No Foxy we haven't lost points.

We were awful going forward and at no stage did I think we were watching a team likely to make a serious push for promotion. That's what i learnt from yesterday, that we are very unlikley to win the play-offs and I'll be resonably surprised if we get in them - which is a disgrace given the resources.

Your second point is beyond my comprehension and typifies what I consider are your now regular, utterly ridiculous responses to quite sensible posts from me.

Basing our chances purely on yesterday, I'd be worried about beating anyone in the playoffs. However, why don't we take into consideration the unbeaten run we had before it? Is that not also relevant, given that included the teams we are playing against for promotion?

Did at any stage you think you were watching two teams from different divisions?

Your second point is beyond my comprehension and typifies what I consider are your now regular, utterly ridiculous responses to quite sensible posts from me.

It is a direct comparison. If losing to Bolton shows that we will struggle to win in "bigger" games.... Doesn't Manchester United being knocked out of the cup by lower opposition show that they'll struggle to beat the teams they are expected to and therefore struggle to maintain a push for the top of the league?

How is that ridiculous? how are my other posts ridiculous?

Must admit I think Blackwell was less culpable than Warnock or Kendall. All Blackwell did was pick the same system that was brilliant against PNE. I'd have done the same. The players didn't perform.

Meanwhile Warnock dropped McCall and fell out with Windass. And Kendall went spectacularly negative. To me, these decisions were inexplicable...

Agree Dunc, most of them will probably be dead.;)

I went and thought we looked awful.

I probably wouldn't have gone if it wasn't for the lads twisting my arm with the promise of a lengthy stint in the advanced state.

I really like this post. Summed up in 6 correct points.

Nothing personal, but I'm baffled as to why everyone loves this post...

1)It showed we are a mediocre team in a mediocre league. we are a club that is frightened to death of the finances and the implications of being 'ambitous.

We're a decent team in a mediocre league but this was the cup. We should be cautious with finances. What does ambition actually mean to you?

2)It shows us that even though Bolton are not a top Premiership club they are still better than us.

As you'd expect - they bloody well should be!

3) It showed us yet again that at the big games United bottle it, its no reflection on this manager, others have done exactly the same.

This wasn't a big game. Besides, we won the same fixture two years ago!

4) It shows us that next season in the Championship we will experience average crowds like Boltons, i.e. empty stadium.

Well, yeah. We'll have to go to Hillsborough won't we. :)

5) it shows us that the supporters hope and optimism never triumphs over the reality of what is served up for us.

Either spend more time remembering the good times or amend your expectations.

5) it shows us that we are the eternal optomists as most of us will be at BDTBL on Tuesday for the Reading game.

Glad to hear it. Hope you've cheered up by then!

6) Unfortunatly it also shows that my wife might just be correct in her analysis of 'Why do you Bother'.

Because you can't appreciate what is good without a deep, prolonged and agonising immersion in the bad. Otherwise you'd be a Man Yoo fan (or at Meadowhall). Or both.

As per usual, a defeat and all of a sudden we're doomed, won't win the play-offs etc etc

I actually thought we played OK yesterday, certainly in the 1st half, quick movement, knocking it around and doing some of the stuff people on here say we never do. What we did lack was any nouse or invention in the final 3rd which resulted in very few (putting it mildly) efforts on goal. Having said that, at no time did we look any worse than Bolton, read into that what you will.

What did we learn, well, not a lot I suppose. We did show that we can play it around but the same issues with creativity and cutting edge are as relevant as they have been for ages. Should we write the season off after yesterday, course not.

Scary isn't it.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be jumping around like the next lunatic if we snook in through the play-offs, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy watching us get tonked week in week out. Being the laughing stock is no good.

This side is nowhere near good enough to compete in the Premiership, but here we are in January, still with a chance of promotion.

A downside of the Playoffs?

I didnot go but all the match reports including Deadbat's seem to say they were dire but we were worse and my little flame of hope that we were getting there was snuffed out......

I don't think yesterday told us a lot really other than we have no back up at the back again. Our first choice front two, well in recent weeks anyway, were replaced and benched and we also lost our new centre half in the warm up. When i heard that i knew we were doomed.

As an attacking threat and in terms of end product yes but all the stats back up the fact we had more possession and maybe it was just me with my rose tinted's but we did pass it around quite well in the 1st half and there really was nothing between the teams.

Well, having spoken to several that went, apart from a couple of daft mistakes for the goals there wasn't much between the two teams. I'd have thought the worry from a match like that would be with Bolton. After seasons and seasons in the PL, they looked no better than we did, and as most people on here point out, we are a complete shambles managed by a plank!

I was there Jim and yes we did pass the ball more but thats not hard as that Bolton side were piss poor. Its the ugliest brand of football ive ever seen from a PL side. The reason they beat us was because they had that litte bit more nous that comes with playing in the top flight, plus our manager wasnt clever enough to change things when we went behind.

As far as possession goes I couldnt say but regardless, possession and passing style count for nothing. The fact of the matter is a very ordinary football team were too clever for us when they werent even playing to their optimum. I wouldnt hold out hope for promotion and if we even sneak through the back door we should all be very worried about next season.

Despite all that I will be at BDTBL tomorrow night for the Reading game. UTB!

Not according to most on here !

I know Jim but I have never understood that. Dont get me wrong I am a believer in getting the ball down and playing football the right way (when its needed) but too many on here want attractive football above all else.....

Ive played under some great coaches and very knowledgable people (some now at high levels of the game) and they all said the same thing - "the best side is the one that scores the most goals."

Too many fans have fanciful ideals. No realism.
