League 1 looks a little bit more northern now , as Bradford joined Rotherham in being a sat nav destination for blades, with a shorter journey time.

They have goals in them , something we need to address after having our teeth pulled last season

They showed what to do when you get to a play off final.

Also Northampton performed exactly like we normally do in the final.

Great result.

Also maybe less likely that Parkinson will join us now?

Yup, why would he leave now? You'd think Bradford's curve will continue to point upwards, while ours is flatlining, suggesting a major rebuilding job.

Hard to imagine he's interested.

didnt realise Brentford equalled our 7th play off final failure when losing v yeovil yesterday

must be a red and white stripe thing

And like I said it the Shoutbox, if we're back in for Wells we're likely to be rebuffed.

Interesting interview with Nakhi Wells after the game tho' - when asked if he'd be playing at Bradford next season he said 'I'll definitely be playing in League 1 next season'. Which suggests maybe not there?

Their chairman on Look Leeds saying they'll give Parkinson a budget to compete for promotion to Championship

Complete bollocks though, they don't even own their ground you know ...............................................

Not certain, but I think it is 7. We lost to:
Bristol city
Sunderland
Palace
Wolves
Burnley
Huddersfield
Yeovil

That's right (although Sunderland and Palace are the other way around). Six failed promotion attempts and one relegation.

I wouldn't really count the Bristol City one.

That was something different.
it was a post season play off, how different is that from a play off
the ipswich semi was decided on away goals , that was different as that no longer applies

so we have took part officially in 7 play offs , succeeded in zero

It's "Bradford CITY" NOT 'Bradford'. There's only one Club in Bradford that can ever be called 'Bradford' and that's "Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC" - it's in brackets as it was added after the Club was formed by request of the then Football league to help differentiate Bradford AFC from Bradford City AFC. Sorry to be pedantic but it's not much different from us or those in S6 being deemed merely 'Sheffield'...

And as my pal dublin 10 blade suggests, as an Avenue lad, I f'in H**E Bradford City - nothing more to me than a Wednesday in Claret & Amber

And more objectively, as an opponent of the PO's, I find it an utter disgrace that a team than finishes 7th can be promoted and trophied, whilst other teams finishing third etc., get nothing. Living in this city just became more enjoyable than normal

Told youse not to rattle his cage about this one . ;)

No mate , like most Yorkshire folk we tell it like it is. You may not like it but at least it's the truth . :)
Don't mind it all dublin...kinda glad you mentioned it actually. But the garbage I'm gonna endure this season doesn't bear thinking about :( Last season was a sheer pleasure in comparison...

Areight bradford.
The guys at city gent are a good bunch, they sell Wings of a sparrow, the avenue fanzine, at their matches, at least they used to as I saw them a few times at Valley Parade. They love football, they don`t hate anyone..other than leeds that is...oh and the blue n whites of kirklees i guess.

I used to go to valley parade when I was at the university, so I'm quite looking forward to the games. Didn't know about Park Avenue until I was in Kendal and they were playing in the same league and was surprised at the history. When were they reformed? It was relatively recent wasn't it? Did they originally play where the cricket academy is (was?) by Horton Park?
Wasn't Park Avenue an offshoot of Northern originally? I think some of it stems from Park Avenue going out of existence way back in time (60s?) for what would be considered pretty normal behaviour now. So many people aren't aware that Bradford ever had 2 league teams, even though Park Avenue were historically the bigger team.

Us & that lot in S6 get upset by being referred to as just 'Sheffield' and I suspect fans of Sheffield FC get reasonbly upset. I can understand the animosity.

Good bunch? - we'll have to agree to disagree. I live here 24-7 and yes, they hate a plenty. Tonnes of far-right knuckle-draggers in their ranks. Moreover, when my lad comes back from college (who has NOT inherited my sheer hate of that Club - sad to say ;) ) and states - given their last few months escapades at Wembley - that he cant believe their arrogance from even his mates, well...it says it all to me. The Man Utd of BDMC...what a joke. If they played in blue 'n' white you wouldn't be surprised. The Bradford Massive ... laughable

All the best Pal - UTB!

Thanks Kendall - I'm still picking up the history even now. That said, I've followed 'em loosely since reformation, but it's only last season I really made the commitment to go watch what was 'my familys' team..

When were they reformed? It was relatively recent wasn't it? Did they originally play where the cricket academy is (was?) by Horton Park?

Reformed in '88 so this eason will be our Silver Anniversary :D Dunno about the cricket academy, but yes their ground was Horton Park Avenue (hence the suffix of the location for the Clubs name). It was, like Bramall Lane also a Yorkshire CCC ground too I believe, but the cricket field wasn't directly attahced to the football pitch IIRC.

Well, in truth Bradford AFC were formed from the Bradford RLFC Club which of course, became 'Bradford Northern' (aka: the Bulls). So you could say Northern were our 'mother Club'...

I think some of it stems from Park Avenue going out of existence way back in time (60s?) for what would be considered pretty normal behaviour now. So many people aren't aware that Bradford ever had 2 league teams, even though Park Avenue were historically the bigger team.
That's quite true; voted out of the League in '70 (with some help from those in charge at City), then wound up in '74. There was no 'administration' then, so the Club simply 'dissolved'. That's what makes it so painful; when you consider City went into admin twice and look where they are now - an absolute disgrace  But you're right, you wouldn't believe the ignorance of the Bradford public themselves. Some have heard of Ave but thought they didn't/don't exist anymore, some haven't even heard of us :confused:o_O And it don't help that the local rag (the T&A) is vehemently pro-City as is the Council...sound familiar????

Us & that lot in S6 get upset by being referred to as just 'Sheffield' and I suspect fans of Sheffield FC get reasonably upset. I can understand the animosity...
Yeah, this is one point I keep raising when talking to fellow Blades, so thanks for the understanding Kendal. With such a gap of non-existence (between '74 & '88, and even then it's taken us 25 years to get to the Blue Square North - two promotions away from the League), many an Avenuite and Shittyite have forgotten - or never even been brought up with - the rivalry. But I can assure you that there is a significant die-hard element, especially among the Green 'n' White side of Bradford, that hasn't forgotten it (and I'm one of 'em ;) )...

It was like Headingley, with a main stand facing the football ground in one direction and the cricket ground in the other.

Yorkshire did indeed use Park Avenue for cricket.

City had a better history than Avenue when the latter went out of business, but there wasn't much in it: both had brief spells in the top flight but had been in the lower divisions since the 1940s. Avenue had finished last in the league 3 or 4 years in a row when they were voted out.

Cheers Rev; that's it, I recall the pictures of the old ground - and some team STILL plays cricket there AFAIK...

Indeed, and that happened with some huge pressure from City oddly enough  hence handing over the city to the monopoly of 'Manningham FC' :(

The Park Avenue cricket ground was definitely the Yorkshire Cricket Academy ground in the mid 90s, but I recall there was talk of it being sold off. The few glimpses you could get from gaps in the (badly maintained) walls would suggest that it had hardly had a lick of paint since PA left. I've not been back to that part of Bradford for years. I guess its kind of understandable that City get more press, being in the football league. But I recall the T&A being fairly pro-leeds. Definitely used to see more leeds shirts around than city. I developed an irrational dislike of Huddersfield after watching a few derbies at Valley Parade - must be the blue & white.

Should we all adopt Park Avenue as a 2nd team? Would any City fans twig if there were more than a few green & white flags/shirts in the away end next season?:D Where can one buy a PA shirt?

The city gent fanzine does not contain far right knuckle draggers in its ranks.
They are a fanzine promoting anti racism amongst City fans, as well as much more.
Like I said they sell the wings of a sparrow, the Avenue fanzine, which does not suggest that they hate Avenue. Any right wing City fans are not part of the city gent crew.
