Warnock era bad buys.

Without doubt some of the Warnock signings were..... well let's say it - shocking.

But his signings in comparison to Blackwell can't really be 'matched'.

Blackwell has money that Warnock could only dream of for the majority of his tenure.

Some of the names mentioned, we made a profit on once sold like Claude Davis? Leigertwood?

People mentioning Paul Ifill are a bit naive too, he was an integral part in our promotion season.

That said - Fathi, Shelton, Steve Jagielka, Lee Baxter etc etc etc were all shocking signings...

To be fair though, there's no point making signings (even if they are free's) if they're not good enough to play, as in the case of alot of Warnock purchases.

All I'm saying is that the majority of signings KB has made, they have been good enough to play for us (with the exception of Justin Haber). I know Brian Howard has got a bit of stick, but he does contribute occasionally (scoring against Reading springs to mind).

That could all change though, I'm not going to hold my breath on a few recent signings (Evans and Williamson in particular)

Matty Spring,
Anthony Stokes,
Lupoli,
O'Toole,
Beattie,

I know not all of the above are poor players (in fact I think Lupoli and O'Toole are great players) but they did nothing really of note for the Blades in their time.

Blackwell has only had 2 transfer windows too, compared to Warnocks many over his 9 year tenure.

How about Christian "Not quite fit yet but we're hopeful he'll be ready soon" Nade??
The goal against Arsenal not-withstanding.

I think Akinbyis goal against the pigs at swillsborough was worth every penny so wouldnt put him as a bad buy.

Claude Davis did ok for us, and i seem to remember Bruce Dyer doing ok on the odd occasions.

Warnocks transfer window spending reminded me of young BB wandering round Ingoldmells market with a tenner burning a hole in his pocket.

"Got to buy something, got to buy something!" Then he appears with an armful of useless shite that is not going to make our lives any better and will probably break within five minutes. He should really save all his pocket money for quality purchases that will put all his other toys in the shade.

Questions:-
Do managers get any sort of signing-on fees for completing transfers? (Brown paper bags withstanding). I'm talking about ones that HMRC would know about. That could possibly explain some of the kneejerk signings that never troubled the first team.

Did anybody of quality really want to Play for Warnock or in one of his teams?

Judging by most of his signings he made I think you already know the answer to that question. :)

Jags, Brown, Tonge, Hulse, Stead, CKR

Should have put that different. I was meaning referring to the actual signing of players. Should have also said "anyone of real quality who didn't carry any baggage"

Jags and Tonge came through the youth system

Brown was a bad boy, no-one else wanted him at the time.

Stead's career had ground to a halt. No-one else wanted him.

CKR's ego is bigger than Warnock's head. No-one else wanted him. The big clubs were hardly banging down our door when we wanted to get shut either.

I'll give you Hulse.

Killa, Craig Short, Unsworth, Ifill, Webber (hot property at that time), Alan Wright, Jon Harley

Were all good players, maybe not for us - but were good players.

Alex Notman, Davy Gysbrechts, James Thomas(on loan from Swansea), Manuel Thetis, Jean-Phillipe Javary, Laurens Ten Heuvel, Mark Rankine, Marcel Cas, Jon Paul McGovern, Richard Edghill, Andy Parkinson.....Etc...

Did we once sign Andy Morrison?

Keith Curle, D'Jaffo... Suffo... Littlejohn

PS, some of the above i seem to remember were signed by Heath!?!?

TJ was quite the worst signing ever by NW. Talk about looking after your mates.
Brought him in as "Striking Coach" and played him in midfield for one game!

I'm afraid that was just taking the p out of the club

Someon mentioned Owen Morrison. I thought he did ok when he arrived, always runnign at players a few tricks along the way. Was abit gutted when he didn't sign.
