I hope someone has a word with him about this. It was a definite yellow card and served to show the inconsistency of the referee - particularly as Koren had already been booked for WBA for the same thing when 30 yards from goal.

If that muppet Wenger was our manager no doubt he'd use words like 'contact' 'momentum' or 'balance'. I'd use the word cheating instead so I hope Kyle cuts it out!

I thought Koren got away with it too? One WBA player certainly dived, didn't get the foul and didn't get a yellow.

That said, I agree it was a ridiculous dive from Kyle; especially considering he could have stayed on his feet and kept the ball.

I think you'll find a yellow was issued.

According to Jamie Redknapp on Sky, talking about the Rooney penalty from yesterday (also a dive), this is just 'gaining an advantage', is 'all part of what football is about', and 'is for the referees to try and spot' rather than expect the players to play by the rules.

Agree with you Houso - the scary thing about Walker was he could have simply stepped over the WBA player on the floor and proceeded further into the box

Shocking. Idiots like Jamie Redknapp mustn't be allowed to explain what football is about on TV.

Quite a lot of shouts around us at Walker to cut it out.

It's the main thing that puts me off the Prem and I was pleased that people thought we shouldn't be trying it on.

Yeah I saw that.

Bang out of order I dont want to see him do it again. Anyway we know the only person who can dive is Jack Lester. :)

I cant stand it when I see people Wenger trying to defend diving.

Rooney's was a clear penalty yesterday. If there is definite contact, which there was, it doesn't exactly matter what style they use to collapse to the ground. Henderson is a strong guy, he was clipped at the ankles (a clear penalty) but given he was hardly running at full pelt I doubt it would in itself be enough to ground him.

There are differences between exaggerating a foul, and 'creating' a foul simply off a dive - prime example in that game yesterday being Eboue's ridiculous attempt.

Didn't see the Rooney penalty (nor ours yesterday), but speaking generally - definite contact doesn't mean it's a foul, nor that players can be excused for going to ground.

From where we were sat, it looked as though he did get clipped ie there was contact, but not enough to send him down and the delay before he fell over was ridiculous. So, I agree, he needs to cut it out, though I have a bit of sympathy for him in this case.

Have to disagree there. Rooney started going over before Almunia made contact so I see it as a dive and blatant cheating. The stupid thing is that if he'd taken an extra penalty the kepper would have brought him down. The one on Arshavin was the most blatant penalty ever, but fortunately for the ref he scored 20 seconds later so it didn't really matter.

Interesting article.................

"The reality is referees have to control a dysfunctional circus of sneaks and petty cheats who expend vast amounts of energy and time shirt-pulling, elbowing, complaining, time-wasting, edging the ball forward at a free kick, stealing five yards at a throw and doing just about everything possible to 'cause the match official to make an incorrect decision"

The Rooney penalty was an interesting one. Even with the benefit of freeze-framing I wouldn't know which way to call it. Before contact was made by Almunia, Rooney had already rolled his trailling foot over to drag his toes into the ground - a trick employed by our good friend Steven Gerrard. Now at this point, should Almunia pull completely out of the challenge, Rooney would have fallen to ground anyway as he'd already made the decision to go over, and I would hope he'd have been given the same treatment as Eduardo. However, Almunia did follow through and take him out - so regardless, Rooney would've got a penalty. The question though, is "Had Rooney already committed the offence of diving, before Almunia made the contact?".

I think looking back at it in real-time, you've got to have sympathy with the ref.

The one on Arshavin was just a complete joke though - and as typical an example of an "Old Trafford decision" as Wes Brown on Luton Shelton - so bollocks to sympathy for the ref. :D

Bad on walker for diving....

But to throw a cat amongst the pigeons....

Was it "an attempt to foul" walker meaning we should have had a penalty???

He's called sicknote in my circle of mates, for me he's not exactly an expert in the field of football, having been injured for most of his career.

I didn't see the walker dive, as I sit the other end, but I hope the premier hasn't gone to his head....Not like him to dive, he's used to be solid. But with the amount of shirt pulling lately, I really want someone to do a Vinnie Jones. :D

I was gutted when he did that, he'll fit in well at Spurs but it's not the Blades way.

Perhaps you have to learn to cheat to succeed but I'd rather fail if that's the case.

What about our NEIL, been on five live; saying divers should be banned for six matches. And Jack Lester is a diver, only he didnt know how he did it.

I think Warnock talks out of his arse 95% of the time.

Warnock says things that suit Neil Warnock and it does not matter if they are correct or not, but as long as they excuse him and his team then they are the right things to suit his agenda.

Gamesmanship has been around now in the game for a number of years, and it is something that came in with the influx of foreign players. Not saying anything negative about the influx of foreign players as there has been some magnificent players who have undoubtedly lit up the English game, but sadly they have also brought in a culture of conning referees and simulation with all their technical brillance and magnificent talents.

Totally agree with you especially regarding Warnock.

It was Heinze who should have been having an early bath for taking out Sheldon when he was through on goal.

If you get fouled and go down then that isn't diving.

Sure everyone should keep their feet but the problem is Ref's don't give the penalty unless you go down. If ref's got it 100% right then yes you wouldn't need to go down because they'd pull the play back and give the penalty but they don't.

Don't see any problem with either drawing the foul or going down if you are touched like Eduardo was. However diving like Eboue's should be a 3 game ban.

Pretty sure it was Brown who took his leg in the box which is the incident I'm referring to.

EDIT
Seems you're right mate, apologies :)

Was definately Heinze who took Shelton in the box :)

Ha! Cheers Foxy, I edited my post 1 minute before this photographic evidence! :D

Diving did not come from abroad, it was just coincidence that the cameras arrived too and we can now see for sure what we always thought: players cheat at football.

In 1971-72 Franny Lee scored 15 penalties in one season.

Warnock isn't the only person calling for bans for diving, Stan Collymore wrote the same thing in his column in the Mirror yesterday. And numerous other writers have also called for similar things, but its only ever Warnock who gets derided for it.
