Without specifically checking , in respect of the pull back on O’Hare my impression was that both players were off the pitch but the ball was still in play inside the penalty area .

Assuming that this was the case , does anyone know what the referee’s decision should have been if he had spotted it and why , since there seems to be some doubt as to whether a penalty can be awarded in these circumstances .

Even if the player is off the pitch, technically he is still on the pitch as the referee has to give permission for any player to leave the pitch. Think about when a defender is behind the goal line and a striker taps the ball into the net - The striker is not offside because the defender (and goalkeeper presumably) are still playing him on. Therefore, on Sunday it should have been given as a penalty.

Check out the Blackburn defender (1:50) for this Illiman goal a couple of years ago.

I had a little nose on their match thread, some nice comments, don't think they rate the ex pig though.. 😂

Quite surprised a few of them thought they were worth a point.

I don’t recall them having a shot on target of any real note that wasn’t an absolute gimme for Cooper.

United could and should have had more.

It was made to look close by us not putting it to bed with the penalty but probably should have been 3-0.
