More well considered opinions than I expected. The penalty call was unarguably correct (though I missed the challenge with my own eyes because it was so ridiculously late). But agree Brown's two yellows were harsh, even if he is a twat. :)

This comment pretty much sums it all up:

Got to be a confidence thing, they were a poor outfit considering 5th in the league, some of their passing was awful. Felt all we had to do was nick one and there would of been a deluge of boos and abuse, they were clearly desperate for the win.

Thought they had some legitimate grievances about the ref, though not always the ones mentioned.

not one Sheff Utd fan appealed for a foul on Browns first challenge it was simply a great tackle

This is the old he-won-the-ball argument which is not in the Laws. I'm not sure whether it was a booking or not, but winning the ball is not necessarily a defence.

Also it reads like some of our more opinionated Members have gone underground, infiltrated their message boards, and started posting about how crap we are.

Interesting to that this pov has wider traction but I just can't see it myself.

I was puzzled with the comments saying it was a dubious penalty as I saw the horrendous challenge on Murphy clearly (some sat around me didnt see it as they were following the ball) so I have switched the tv on to look at the FLS show that I had recorded, fast forwarded it to our match. Again stonewall penalty but can understand some fans missing it as the tackle was so late. I think the Vale fans who made the comments had not seen FLS yet. Even one of the Port Vale players was angry at the player who made the challenge gesturing that he didnt need to put his foot that high and plant it on Murphy

Funniest moment was when the cheese ball of a stadium announcer gave the disallowed scorers name and bellowed out ‘ What a game ‘,

Errr, he said "Would have been".

As conspiracy theories go that is the most pathetic I've ever heard. People bang on about Blades that want United to lose, I've never met one yet let alone anyone who would stoop to pretending to be an oposition fan to enable them to slag their own team. Or even think it would happen.

In fairness someone behind me at Scunny last week said they wouldn't mind if we lost as Clough might then be sacked. However I agree with you about our fans going in other club's forums to slagged us off

Mentioned on here before bartman I must be in a fairly placid part of the ground, never heard that sort of comment and/personal abuse towards players (is yer crap abusive?) one guy goes on about em being donkeys but we have all become immune to that one. Good view from our leather seats though ;)

“Sheffield uniteds crowd need find some passion .
What is it with modern day footballfans ,"

its starting to show

Numbers-wise our crowds have been fantastic. Very few clubs in the country could match such support at L1 level.

I agree the atmosphere has not been great though. I think the slow and negative style of play hasn't helped. Nor do we have any star players or cult figures to get the fans going. Even Brayford's cult status seems to have diminished since he returned. Very few of the players even have their own song.

I'm sure a bit more positivity and passion from Clough and the team would help.

Well it was a nailed on penalty so I don't see how that could be argued against, and also the ref was terrible for both sides not just them.

That apart they make some fair points, Browns first booking was a good tackle, it would have been nil nil without the penalty, they were well worth a point,we are a poor side who will be playing Vale again next seaon and the new kit is awful.

'As for Veseli getting booked because their lad wouldn’t retreat for us to take a free kick… Summed up the mans performance today.'

And if the Vale man hadn't tried to steal ten yards from where them original foul was, and if the lino. hadn't kept schtum, United's player wouldn't have been booked.

It's depressing because I agree with almost all of their points, other than the penalty decision. Other team's views on us lately are fairly grim.

I think you know why

I can hazard a guess.

May I further hazard a suggestion that it's best to read to the end of any posts to see what they actually mean rather then responding to perceived, but in reality non-existent, nonsense.

Context clarifies - and all that.

Furthermore it might also be worth taking a look through a thread to see if anyone else has previously posted a similar (some might say silly) assessment and equally had their lack of a point pointed out to them.

Like I said, silly ;)

Indeed, they seem to following a pattern of late.

The first Brown yellow wasn't - it was right in front of me on John Street, and we're only 9 rows back. It was a great challenge by him. That said, him having gotten such an early yellow probably save him from picking one up for all the other little niggly stuff through the rest of the game until he finally walked a few minutes from the end.

The Vale fans harping on about Howard handling outside the area are completely wrong - again I had a great view of it. Howard comes for the ball, admittedly handles it and grabs it but inside the area, and then when he realises he can't stop himself going out of the area, he LETS GO of the ball with his hands / arms, and slides it out on his chest, before spinning round and tapping it back into the area. Very clever goalkeeping.

We didn't play great, but we won. Three points is all that matters in this position. Hopefully now / in a couple of games the nerves will settle once the POs are guaranteed and we'll get decent football again to find form before the Lottery begins.
