Kraft durch Freude
For all those heroes and heroines who went last night, here's what you missed on ITV4.
Basically, fuck all.
The 'studio guys' were Adrian Chiles, Lee Dixon and Roy Keane. Forgetting that all games they televise live are classics, they never stopped slagging the quality of the match off. Numerous references to 'poor crowd', 'weather' etc. those three would make good careers out of being the hired grief at a fucking funeral. Of course, the PL never have below-par games.
Clark Carlisle was one of the commentators and was excellent - praising where due but both he and his co-commentator would have given Fulham at least three penalties and had Bob Harris sent off. (Memo to players. You are not allowed to even look in the direction of fading tosspots such as Dempsey and Parker.) Our fans were praised several times ('around two or three thousand who've made the journey down') but it was a pity you were all crowded in the corner, almost invisible to the cameras when that end was attacked.
Plus points for us (apart from speed, aggression and organisation they've been hiding all season), Flynn is a far better player than some give him credit for, Harry and Collins were immense, Brayford is a legend in the making (until he goes back...) and Harris and Murphy get mentions in dispatches. Howard dealt well with everything (not much) thrown at him but wants to drop the private distribution lessons he's getting from Long. Also, he wants to get a jersey with the same sponsor as the rest of the team.
Fulham? In big trouble. They've embarked on a multi-million pound version of United's 'sell quality and replace with journeymen and crap' route. Passley started well but faded, Amorebieta is a dirty cunt, Kacaniklic is useless and Rodallega's substitution was pure comedy gold. He looked stunned to be taken off (he'd been appalling) and buried his head in the dugout, looking like he was crying.
Superb, Blades. Both on and off the pitch.
