An old colleague and friend was in Sheffield last night and I convinced him to go last night and let me know what he thought. He is a 58 year old German ex pro, ( second and third div). Here is what he has just told me.

No support from midfield in attack and defence. Large spaces for opposition to play in to.
Totally disorganised, looked clueless.
Was unclear what system they were playing.
No player stood out. Though he did like one or two from Southend.
He commented on the poor work rate, not playing for each other, not supporting. He described them as a group of poor individuals, not playing as a team.
He said it was one of the shittest games he had seen for years. That is saying something, we have sat through some shit games together.

On the plus side, he loved the ground, thought the crowd number was amazing given the fair on offer. He did say it was the first time in his life he had seen fans fighting amongst themselves.

Worryingly, he said we had an air of Bayer Uerdingen about us, can't be bothered to explain, look them up.

I'm over in the UK early Sept, I will see for myself then.

"KFC has struggled with financial difficulties in recent years, and its efforts to raise money included auctioning on eBay the right to coach the squad for one match and inviting childhood fan Pete Doherty to a league match."

I've just read this about Bayer Uerdingen on Wiki, is that actually true?!

I'm not quite sure what you mean with the Uerdingen reference - is it the bit where we actually win a trophy in my lifetime, or the bit where the sponsors walk out, we end up in the Evostik and rename ourselves to make it look to ill-informed outsiders that we're sponsored by Colonel Sanders?
