I believe I said in the past that we wouldn't believe how bad Adkins, Clough etc were until we had a scout and a manager ( and importantly an asst mgr, which I never mentioned!) who knew a player and how to blend and motivate a squad. Good new signings set the scene and then it's all easier, though still very hard over a full season, week in week out.

I'm trying to work out whether I am troll or trolled right now. Can't answer with any surety.

What I can say that is to compare Clough with Adkins isn't right or proper. Clough at least saved us from the abyss of League two no matter what you think about his last season in charge. Two cup semi finals isn't ultimately what we needed but it brought some good times back and some money into the kitty. Adkins was the man with no redeeming features last season. I still can't work out how and why but facts are facts. We were all happy with him when he came in, for some reason it just didn't work.

Well as BTL is living testament to, if you change your mind often enough then you will be proved bang on eventually. Cling onto that and you suddenly have a track record of never being wrong.

This club is being driven by the manager, everything is ramping up and charged by his personality and his energy. The club is United again.

Our gain is Charlton' s loss and Northampton' s loss.

Do you think Oxford, and especially Coventry, fans are delighted about getting to the Giveafuck Trophy final? Long after the jesters hats are consigned to the back of the cupboard, next years' fixture list will feature the usual dross. And that's all Clough brought - transient glory, when utter capitulation against Swindon in the play-off semis were the true mark of his tenure. Clough did not save us from the 'abyss of League 2' in his first season (2013-14). He took over from the debacle of Weir (and for 3 games, Morgs) on game 14. Therefore, he had 32 games to improve on the utter garbage that Weir brought - hardly 'teetering on the brink'. His full season (2014/15) brought just five more points than the previous (disastrous) season. The least said about Adkins the better.

With the arrival of a succession of managers, the fans have given them unequivocal support from day one (apart from a handful of 'Brian The Blades' when Wilson came in.) When CW's reign started off badly, there was undoubtedly a feeling of 'here we go again', and quite rightly so. But he's shaping up to be a legend of Dave Bassett proportions.

While you correctly say 'to compare Clough with Adkins isn't right or proper', surely it's equally pertinent to point out that players who were unceremoniously shipped out by both NC and NA - such as Brayford - could well have flourished under CW.

What cannot be denied is the remarkable support which climbed to a season-average of 21,079 on Saturday. With at least two huge matches to come, this can only increase. Throughout these difficult times, managers and players' performances can be debated, but our fans are among the very finest (singing or not ).

I actually think Clough could never get the centre halves and centre forward he needed. Don't blame anyone but him for that by the way. I liked O'Grady and Davies but as stated by others Billy Sharp was the one good bit of business Adkins did and Clough never managed that. It cost him dearly in the end.

And don't forget that Adkins 'got us into' round 3 of the FA Cup at Man. U. in front of a crowd of 74,284 (the biggest attendance United had played in front of since 80,518 saw them lose the Play-Off Final to Burnley on May 25th, 2009 BTW). After a heroic (?) defence, Adkins-favourite Hammond committed a schoolboy-error in giving a penalty away in the last minute. This was part of Hammond's work that the crowd did notice. Never mind. It's reckoned that this game put around £2m into Uniteds coffers. Pity it all ended up in Adkins' back pocket.

I think most of us leaving Bramall Lane on Saturday thought Charlton looked like they had makings of a decent side. Reading their comments you realise (and recall) how when things are shit, even good looks shit.

For example I give you the fact that they believe that their keeper should have held onto the ball when making the wonder save from Lafferty before the 2nd goal. Looking at it again, it is laughable that you would think this is the reason to sack the keeper off:

I don't entirely understand why Robinson's so unpopular, but I reckon they could be a promotion winning side next year. I do think Wilder's comments about our team being 'proper players' who put in a performance every week is bang on, and so different to previous years.

To bring it round to a Blades viewpoint - how lucky Lafferty was that the 2 Charlton defenders didn't realise how useless Hanson is when they blindly followed him into the centre of goal leaving Lafferty the clear header

He's clearly not 'useless' is he, if he draws two defenders away. That is a 'use' that a forward can be proud of if he allows a team mate to score.
