The Cutlers is my favourite pub in Rotherham and I like Chantry beers, but why do they only seem to do 4% pale ales?

There were, I think, 3 of theres on on Saturday, plus the Inspector, all 4% pales.
I'm not including Special Reserve or the stout obviously.

I expect that's a rhetorical question. To which I don't know the answer. I'd expect it's because Chantry know their market and profile. Maybe they see themselves as rather traditional brewers. And see no market for anything pushing the boundaries. Like a 5.9% double dry hopped hazy pale.

They have their Kaldo Pale at 5.5%. Which is more of a robust English Pale. Although still rather pale in the glass. I didn't see that on Saturday.

And there's the RUFC themed Mighty Millers. That's 5.5%. That was on in The Cutlers.

What sort of beer were you driving at? In the sense of a comparable beer from another brewer?

Must admit I didn't see the Mighty Millers on Saturday or probably would've had that. Never seen the Kaldo before either, that sounds good.

You've hit the nail on the head with the 5.9% double dry hopped hazy pale, something like that as an alternative would be good though I see where it could be an expensive experiment if it didn't sell.

Most memorable pint I've had recently was Thornbridge Crackendale, a 5.2 Citra. That really hit the spot, but can't seem to get it anymore, anywhere.

Chantry have brewed a Citra before. Comes in at 4% though. Which is where we started this conversation 🤓

Which is where I probably didn't explain myself very well initially, there were 3 4% pales in a row and, to my unrefined palate, tasted too similar.

Just had another look at Thornbridge website and it's back on, might get myself a few 😁

Might need to hit Thornbridge owned pubs (ie Greystones).

I live in Rotherham so it's a bit of an issue, I last had it in the Crown & Cushion in Chapeltown.
Step daughter was at the brewery last week and it wasn't on there either.

Well if you're ever about the country, they own the Coolmore in Brum, and another pub in York (forget the name). Also had it at The Harp in London town.

I am a #BigFan of the Untappd App. Without boring with all the details....

"Millions" of like minded individuals check beers in when they drink them. Then it is possible for geeks like me to see and find out where they are being slurped. Although, I use it mainly to track down VENUES I might enjoy. Rather than to find beers.

I am happy to report a drinker had a Cask Crackendale yesterday in the Leili Pub, Espoo, Finland

Never Say Never

This is what the Internet is for....
