How tasty is the small beer stuff? I've reached an age where I'd rather drink lower abv (probably because I get drunk a lot easier) but I find low abv often means weak.

I mean, there is some blinding stuff out there. For eg Abbeydale Restoration at 2.8% is excellent. I was a bit underwhelmed on Saturday at Small Beer. Given that all they do is low abv beers, on a specially designed and built kit. The beers were fine. Looked good. Nice body. Not thin and watery. But, I'm a HopHead and they lacked any floral, citrus, bitter oommpphh.

Tasty enough but my socks remained very much not knocked off.

For me, someone who loves trying (say) 2.2% to 3.3% beers, one issue is ... you never quite know what's going to be on where. So it's hit or miss. It's alright me saying (above) that I love Abbeydale Restoration. But, if I keep going in The Rising Sun and it keeps not being on then I'm going to keep not being able to drink it.

I'm not suggesting we all move to SE London, but at least at that Small Beer place, you know what you're up against. I was at pains to point out to the Carrier Bag Firm that it only did lower abv beers. And not to come fucking mithering me if once we got there they "didn't realise..."

One of my none CBF compadres said it was fine by him - he wasn't particularly drinking at the moment.

I asked - Dry January?

He replied - no, Dry until Glastonbury

FFS. He was on the bottles of 1% Dark Lager.

On the footie : Record books show the big increase in attendances for FA Cup games in the old days. In 1925 when we last won the Cup, we were averaging about 25,000 for league games. We got 28,000 for Leeds at Bramall Lane. We played non-league Corinthians in the 1st round in front of 38,167 (it was 4 main rounds and semi back then). Winning the FA Cup was also seen as a bigger achievement than winning the League.

On the beer : you might want to recommend that your CBF compadre start building up some tolerance before he goes to Glasto, otherwise he won't remember seeing the headliners! :D
