This week's Carrier Bag Firm musings centre around the trial opening of a new ALE HOUSE on The Block. The Lost Industry Taproom, on Sylvester St en route from the station to the ground, (opposite ish Fanny's). I deal with all the important issues - Big Screens, Buttys, Normal Lager, Protection Rackets - but the Blog is Beery - so don't miss out on the fiver a pint Coffee Rauchbier. Get in quick....

I had a quick schneb at that new place yesterday. All looked a bit keg-tastic for me and I did’t have the requisite beard to fit in with the clientele sipping thirds...

Up to you. I like beer. I won't be distracted by dispensing systems, appearance of clientele nor vessel volume. If it tastes good, do it.

Agreed, I was trying to be a bit tongue in cheek. I generally find keg too fizzy though.
That's interesting. Of course, I recognise the comment. But, it's not something I've ever felt. Maybe I just don't have the right gullet & gizzard. I've just got to a nice position where I feel I can enjoy any beer. The one thing I don't like is over sweet beers. And, generally, I find big brand keg beers - Carling, Heineken, John Smith's to be too sweet. Some cask Stouts, Vanilla this, Peanut Butter that, I also find very sweet. I'll happily give Lagers, Pilsners & Helles a try. And I love them if they have that Barley Sugar Sweetshop sugar. But not if it tastes like Tate n Lyle has been spooned in. My preference is for heavily hopped American IPAs or West Coast Pales. But, I'm sick to death of yellow 'uns & orange 'uns & gloopy ones. I prefer simpler - fruit, richness, hop hit bitterness ones - brown. And I'm very happy at Double or Imperial 7+%. Because I'm not going to be drinking many.

All that said, I'm absolutely loving the Abbeydale Voyager IPA series on Cask (usually 5.6%). They're up to version #18 so far. I had that in The Devonshire Cat after the game. Superb.

Good read, that. I reckon the CBF ought to start offering window stickers for approved match day premises similar to the “Scores on the Doors” food hygiene ratings.

Thing is, and we're self aware, the CBF prefer to be where no one else is. They'd be marking places that are great very low to keep Civilians out. They're fuckers like that.....

Fair enough. I suppose you don’t want to be advertising as you’d have a van full of Old Bill showing up to tip your 5.8% Smoked Porter down the sink.

Good read Phil. I look forward to going there once it "officially" opens.

Those who want £2.80 pints of carling can fuck off frankly. After a heavy session my own piss probably tastes better, and probably has a higher ABV%.
