Sounds like George Long heading back to Sheff Utd. Nigel Clough tells me he's better off playing for the U21s. Not playing at Oxford #SUFC

only a game for paddy - presumed it would be automatic 3 games....? if we continue to look for a striker after each game then mcnuts and higdon will be back before we get one in. Im suprised its taken this long to get Long back if hes been sat on the bench.

You only get three for a straight red if it's violent conduct/Serious foul play. If you've just tripped someone in the box and denied them an obvious goalscoring opportunity it's just a game.

Nope it was only a professional foul

Cool, cheers for the clarification guys!!!

now my next question is (which might have been covered in another thread but ive missed it), can he serve his one match ban tomorrow in the cup even though Palace have said he cant play him? Would we have to tell the league to make him serve his ban on Saturday?

According to the FA his suspension ends after tomorrows game, so it it doesn't really affect us at all.

Unless you've already got a certain number of disciplinary points, in which case it ratchets up to a longer ban I think. But not in this instance.

If true we've been a bit sneaky - having him registered for the cup while respecting Warnock's demand that he not be cup-tied. Given there was no intention of playing him, we have sort of bypassed the ban if the FA website's accurate. Makes sense though I guess, as Palace could have changed their mind on his FA Cup involvement at the last minute.

Fatty Samuals will have a field day with this.

If you deliberately cup tie a loaned player I wouldn't be expecting any further loans anytime soon...

Personally i want to see Basham and McEveley be our pairing so i couldn't give a flying one how long he's out for.A waste of a wage imo.

This is very strange, so could a premier league club have a player facing a one match ban loan their player out to a football league club who had a midweek game, have him sit out that midweek game and then recall him on the Friday in time for their next Premier League game having then technically served his ban?

Such a ruse has been suggested before. Joey Barton was a candidate.

And if so, we should dismiss him with the same contempt as Ms. Chopper.

Once you see these people for what they are, they cease to worry you. It's a bit like the Scarers on Monsters Inc. though considerably uglier.

minimum loan is 28 days so a club couldnt pull a trick like that

Long could do with being loaned back out to another club that might actually play him.
I quite agree Bladesman. Long's confidence must be shot to pieces. He has gone from being our regular keeper and an international at his age level, to not being good enough for Oxford.
Bring him home Nige and set those skills to work to make him a better keeper.

Players loaned out are expected to be up to snuff and probably receive little coaching away from United.
The guy is still young enough to progress but IMO he will improve more with us. If he does go elsewhere, the decision must be well thought out.

Long returning to us will be another wage out of our budget ; maybe not a lot but we only need so many keepers' wage costs.

He needs game time wherever he is placed.
