United players who hated each other

I remember Curran was generally crap for us but I also recall him scoring 2 at home to Huddersfield I think - and climbing up the fence we had in front of the kop at the time to celebrate.

Agree 100%, always rated Tom Cowan but never felt he won Bassett over, and Nilsen was unconvincing at LB, better in the middle for me (JOC type?). Still think David Barnes was the best left back under DB, would have been great under Wilder.
What happened to Barnes? I think we signed him from Aldershot or somewhere equally unimpressive. Then he probably peaked with us and like a lot of players around that time kind of ended up dropping back down again. It really is a testimony to Bassett getting so much from those teams.

Wasn’t Barnes a key player in the team being thrown off a plane. A bit of a lively character by all accounts.

Seem to remember Jamie hoyland and dane Whitehouse having a bust up and Whitehouse sporting a blackeye in the semi in 92 as result.
I heard that was Paul Beesley and Dane at the 93 semi. Must have missed the 92 semi but I did drink a lot in those days - who won?

Was chatting to Geoff Taylor on Plymouth station after a 0-0 draw in early 2000's and asked him about that and he said it wasn't true.

David Barnes was a great attacking full back. I remember him playing against us as the lane for Aldershot and he was quality, next min he signed for us! Same kind of thing happened with Paul Wood, he ripped us a new one in the 5-4 comeback win when he played for Brighton, then bassett signs him!

Spot on! Barnes ran us ragged that day, I remember the bloke next to me saying is that John fookin Barnes!
Wood faded after a bright start, he was an important addition in the run in, didn’t he score the equaliser at Leicester?

Only slightly pedantic there 😂 it was the 92-93 season FA cup.

I went to that game. I can remember being on the platform at the same time. We probably took the same train back to London!

Barnes just before my time in terms of watching, I was an avid follower but by radio and vidiprinter back then as a young 'un! But what I do know was Barnes was 31 ish when he was replaced by Cowan so maybe just slightly past his best. Think you're probably right on Cowan.

Best left back I've ever seen for us is definitely Enda, albeit as a LWB. By a mile. Nilsen may well have been better in the middle as others said. I loved Wirmola at that time in the middle and never understood why he went back so soon, must have been homesick or something. Then we had to play Gayle every week, who was definitely past his best by then!

Didn’t Danny Cullip fall out with someone in his (thankfully) short time with us? I can’t remember who, though.

Paddy Kenny wasn't very complimentary about Colin Kazim-Richards, regarding him as a bit of a prat and a flash Harry.

Loving this thread! You always wonder what goes on and who gets on with who (or not). And there are always rumours...

Wasn't there issues with the 2010/11 relegation squad (it figures!)? Mark Yates' name always cropped up as not the most loved of team mates.
