United’s resurgence continued as they made it four wins from four after demolishing high flying Stoke City 4-0 at Bramall Lane. The Blades have suddenly found their scoring boots and went one better than the three they had plundered in the previous three fixtures. Mark McGuinness and the outstanding Femi Seriki scored their first goals for the club before Pat Bamford gave United a three-goal lead at half time for the second consecutive fixture. After the break, there were several more opportunities before Sydie Peck made it three goals in a week after slamming home a penalty following a challenge inside the box on Andre Brooks. The winger had also given one of his best performances in a Blades shirt as his tandem with Seriki caused all sorts of problems all afternoon for a panic-stricken Potters backline. United are slowly inching up the table and confidence seems to be oozing through the side as they look to try and recover from the nightmare start under Ruben Selles.

The Blades made four changes with another three-game week in prospect. In came Sam McCalllum, McGuinness, Bamford and Gus Hamer. Ben Mee was out with a hand injury, whilst Callum O’Hare, Harrison Burrows and Tom Cannon were rotated out of the starting lineup. There was the first inclusion in a match day squad for over a year for the popular Oli Arblaster. Stoke had started the season impressively but had dropped back from the front two recently after losing 3 games in 4 before this contest. They were backed by a sold out away end as the game began with driving rain in the air.

The game started with both teams looking to get men forward in an open contest. Stoke won an early corner and as it came out Tchamadeu tried to get his shot away but was blocked by Tanganga. United won a corner at the other end and McCallum flashed his header over when well placed. Mubama had a header off target at the other end before United won another corner. Stoke failed to pick up MCGUINNESS again and this time, the big centre half made no mistake powering his header into the net. He almost repeated the feat soon after as yet again Stoke could not deal with him and the set plays coming into their box.

United now were starting to take control of the game with Peck and Riedewald winning the midfield battle and Campbell and Bamford moving the Stoke centre backs around. Much of the danger was coming down the flanks with Seriki, Brooks and Hamer all running at the visiting defenders who were now struggling to hold the Blades up. Campbell and Hamer both seemed to have been pulled back on quick breaks but the referee waved their appeals away.

McGuinness won another header unopposed that Johansson had to parry away and it was now one way traffic. Bamford twice won free kicks with clever hold up play before Tchamadeu was booked for pulling him back.

Stoke had not threatened since the opening part of the game but won a corner that Cooper could only get partially cleared and Bocat fired over as it dropped to the edge of the box. Brooks had an effort saved from the edge of the box after good work between him and Seriki in the build-up. McCallum and Hamer played excellent balls but Bamford could not quite get on the end of the dangerous cross into the box. Bamford then had a shot deflected over the bar.

Brooks shot was deflected and Johansson had to get down quickly to turn it around his near post. United’s set plays were proving a huge danger for Stoke who were unable to deal with some dangerous balls coming into the box. From the next Blades corner, it was not a surprise that McGuinness got another header in, this time over the bar. Soon after another one from Hamer was at least dealt with, or so it seemed, but it fell for SERIKI who jinked past his man, steadied himself and curled an absolute beauty into the top corner away from the despairing dive from Johansson.

The goals kept coming and only 4 minutes later, on 44 minutes, the Blades made it three. The set up was fantastic as Seriki exchanged passes with Peck and got the ball right on the byline and sent over a perfect cross on the half volley that BAMFORD met with a precise flicked header into the corner. United were giving a standing ovation for their efforts as they went down the tunnel at half time.

McGuinness had received treatment in the first half and was not deemed fit enough to carry on, so Tyler Bindon came on for his first appearance under Chris Wilder. Stoke also made a change in their backline, with Phillips on for Rigo.

United continued to look for more goals right from the off – as the ball dropped to Hamer who curled an instinctive effort that Johansson tipped over. Tanganga then headed into the side netting from another clever corner. Stoke were having more possession this half but were not really creating anything as United banked up and looked to break whenever it was turned over. From such a break, after the referee played an excellent advantage after Peck was fouled, United had 4 on 2. Hamer played the ball with the outside of his foot to Bamford on the right side and his cross narrowly evaded Brooks in the middle. Thomas had been kept quiet by United’s right-hand side and he departed on 57 minutes – replaced by Gallagher.

Brooks had been a real threat all game and he sent over a dangerous cross after beating the full back again and soon after he had a driven shot that the keeper spilled but recovered just before United could force it home.

Stoke did finally register an effort of note on Cooper’s goal as the ball came in from the right and Mubama was left unmarked but his header was saved by the Blades stopper. Bindon did well to block the follow up from Manhoef. The Blades made a double change with Riedewald and Bamford departing and Soumare and Cannon entering the proceedings.

Cisse replaced Manhoef and O’Hare came on for Hamer with 20 minutes to play. Brooks was booked for a late challenge but this was the only real blemish in an excellent second half and the winger made the fourth goal soon after. He started the move with a marauding run and then picked up possession again centrally before playing in Campbell. The striker’s back heel sent the ball back into the path of Brooks who was clumsily bundled over by Phillips. The penalty award was an easy one for referee Stephen Martin who cautioned the substitute for his offence.

PECK took the kick and drove it fiercely down the middle as the keeper went to his right. Peck celebrated in front of the Kop with a slide and a forward roll capping a fantastic week for the England u21 international. Burrows came on for McCallum as the game entered the final 10 minutes but Stoke’s players were looking at the scoreboard and just hoping they could get away without further damage – many of their supporters had departed the stadium by this point. World Cup winner Steven Nzonzi came on for the visitors, along with Bozenik – with Lawal and Mubama being replaced.

For the Blades it was becoming exhibition stuff with Seriki and Brooks toying with the Stoke defenders. Brooks fired over after more nice build up play. Tanganga headed narrowly over from another corner before after more good play down the right, O’Hare’s ball in was headed over by fellow sub Burrows. There were three minutes of stoppage time played but it all seemed totally academic now as United played keep ball before being able to celebrate another victory as their impressive recent run continued.

United – An outstanding performance. We beat two poor sides in Wednesday and Portsmouth but played well in these games before really turning it up against a better outfit in Leicester (although inconsistent – look at their win at Derby yesterday!) and just about hung on. Stoke, positionally at least, seemed a step up from anything we had played. They had lost a few recently but had been right up near the top and conceded the least number of goals (14 before the game – 20% of the goals they have conceded happened in one half against us!). They have some dangerous players with some pace and trickery. I thought it would be a tough game and to be honest a point would not have been that bad a result I felt beforehand! The opening was tight with a few corners each way but after we scored the first, we totally took over. They did have a few efforts but think Cooper only had one proper save to make all game. We caused them problems from set plays all game and McGuinness could have had a hat trick. They were not even winning first contact balls and it continued for the whole game. We had at least half a dozen clear headed chances from corners. However, it was not as if we were not creating from open play. Throughout the game, we had so many other decent to good opportunities. Balls into the box just missed our forwards and their keeper might have been their man of the match, as despite conceding four, made a number of decent saves.

The way we played meant they could not cope with us having men advantages down the side with wide overloads and Seriki and McCallum well up with Brooks and Hamer. We also broke well and at pace when we pressed to force the turnover. We had quite a few decent breaks where more goals could have resulted. We finally look extremely dangerous and seem to be creating countless chances after not looking like fashioning anything for the first few months of the season. The change of formation has helped definitely with two up top, Tanganga moving central and Seriki/Brooks inclusion has given us a freshness and vibrancy we did not have before. The midfield two are quietly winning the loose stuff and keeping it simply, allowing the likes of Hamer/O’Hare and Campbell to run in behind when balls are played forward. Bamford has shown his experience in linking play and helping us keep the ball when we do play it longer.

It is an odd one to assess when you look at the stats – we had only 39% possession but ours was meaningful. Stoke did little to nothing with it. We had 19 shots (8 on target) to 7 (1 on target) for Stoke and our XG was 2.53 to 0.27. We created very good chances and continued to exploit their weaknesses down the side and from corners also.

We attacked with purpose all game and for 20 minutes just before half time, it seemed like we might score every time we attacked. McGuinness has been up for corners and never looked like scoring but credit to him yesterday – I am not his biggest fan but he was a constant threat. He scored one and nearly had a few more. Hamer’s corners were excellent throughout. Seriki has been very good since he got back in the team and is staying fit at the moment and yesterday he was superb. Not only attacking wise, with a great goal and assist, but also defensively completely shut down Thomas – he was helped by Brooks who got better and better as the game went on. After the third goal, a lovely team move, the game was effectively done at half time even with what happened last week. Second half we should have scored more. Hamer, Brooks, Tanganga all went close and we had numerous overloads and breaks and with a better final part – it would have been even more comprehensive. Stoke had the one effort and at least did have a bit of a spell but we managed the game much better than last week. We dropped deeper and allowed them to have it but with their pace up top, we felt this was the best way to deny them creating and it worked. We may be dropped off a bit and made changes which saw the subs not quite at the same level as those they replaced but we still looked like we might score every time we came forward. The right-side link up between Seriki and Brooks was relentless as they hunted in a pack and then when they got the ball, kept marauding forward and they did not know what to do. The right-side fourth goal made it a more realistic scoreline that our domination completely merited.

United were superb all game, both in, and out of possession. We won individual battles, looked hungrier than Stoke and when we had the ball came forward at pace. The set plays meant that we had another dimension too. We played some lovely football at times and the transitions/breaks is something we have not seen. I actually think our two most dangerous forward type players – Campbell and Hamer were two of our quieter players which bodes well for future games. It was encouraging that we had such a youngish side to finish (was anyone over 25 of the team that finished?)

We have to keep players fit although sure he will rotate around with three games inside 6 days again – another tough week but we are on a great run and have the momentum so maybe the games coming quickly is a positive thing! I really enjoyed watching us play and Stoke had no answer for us and in the end, it was a dominating and resounding victory – a real statement win.

I think fans of other teams seeing that result will think that United are a team they do not want to play currently and would expect us to keep climbing. The start was so bad, that we have so much ground to make up. We probably need to win the next two games to even be mid table and talk of the playoffs is not something I would really want to discuss yet. There are too many teams between us and that 6th place at this stage and we have to continue to keep winning. If we won like 2 of the next 3 before Xmas, then maybe we can start to think about it more but for now we need to just keep the run going. I think it is important we try and tie down Bamford and Riedewald – at least till the end of the season. I do expect all the loans to go back and a few others to move out and we can try and bring in a few more (I’d say right down the spine, back up keeper, back up centre back, another midfielder – depending on how Arblaster looks and a bigger physical striker).

People will be expecting us to beat Norwich – who have been largely awful this season – but they do have some decent players who are underperforming so might not be straight forward. If we can keep the level of intensity and do the basics well – then the players confidence with the ball and the chances we are creating, means we will score goals currently. It is just nice to go the Lane and see some entertainment and goals though and even last season, not sure we saw the type of play we have seen in the last few weeks with the handbrake almost taken off in terms of us attacking with numbers, moving it forward quicker. We were good to watch yesterday and looked a side that most teams at this level would struggle to hold up. We have to keep this going of course, as a drop off for 3 or 4 games and we are back looking over our shoulder rather than talk of a top 6 finish. Credit Wilder and the players though for upping their intensity and work rate and being aggressive in all aspects of their recent performances.

Ratings:

Cooper 6/10 – Had little to do really but he did struggle on a few corners early on as they tried to test him. Second half he made one good save – was straight at him but he had to still react and make the save. Outside of this, largely well protected.

Seriki 9/10 - His best performance for the club. He has played well in the last few weeks and I am not sure he is as weak as some have said defensively – yesterday he showed that against a very dangerous winger, Thomas, who never got past him all game and was eventually taken off. Won his tackles, read the game, and showed good strength and awareness. Brooks also helped him defensively with teaming up and doubling back. They worked so hard to deny Thomas (and others) space. Going forward he was phenomenal and a constant threat. He seemed to show unrelenting energy and he just coming time after time. His goal was so composed with the jink and the finish- he needs to shoot more if this is what he is capable of. The assist for the third with the run, one two and then getting the ball and sending over the cross on the run – was fantastic. He continued to play well second half with so many runs deep into their territory but I liked the fact he did the defensive stuff too. Him and Brooks seem to play well together (probably done it many times for the u21’s) and their partnership was a real feature in the win. Just hope he can stay fit. His performance yesterday with a wonder goal, assist and being constantly in motion – reminded me of Vas Borbokis in his pomp! Has to stay fit for a long period of time first but if he plays like that – Premier League scouts will surely be looking at him as his profile (pace, aggression, athleticism) fits what they look for in this league.

McCallum 7.5/10 – Been a real surprise this season and rightly had the shirt ahead of Burrows. He showed good energy, defended well and won his battle and then pinned his man back going the other way. Aerially a real asset as he rarely loses a header. He was not really that involved in any big chances/attacking moments I can think of but just another solid performance with no mistakes and linked well with others in a possession sense.

McGuiness 7.5/10 – Only does not get a higher mark as he played only a half but also missed so many decent chances. The first one he should score with probably and then he does score with a pinpoint header. After this he had at least 2 or 3 more good opportunities. They could not get a body on him and he was never dealt with. Odd really as he has never looked dangerous like that so far? Maybe Hamer’s delivery helped as they were outswingers, he could come onto? He did pick up a knock – which was when he fouled his man and could not continue. His best 45 minutes for the club though and showed he does have some assets.

Tanganga 7.5/10 – Like above, he also was a threat from set plays and 2nd half he took over the man winning the corner – one header wide and another just over. He looks so much better in the middle and was able to win most of his headers/tackles. He is a powerful player that is showing why we invested so much in him. The one negative was he lost his man on that chance second half when they probably should score. Even with Mee missing, the defence looked relatively sound again.

Riedewald 7.5/10 – Steady performance as has become the norm. Sits in front of the defence, does not move that much but he just keeps it nice and simple. He has been quietly very effective in our recent run and dovetailed nicely with Peck – helping us win the battles when we need to in midfield. Talk of interest from other clubs is a bit of a concern but hopefully the fact Wilder gave him a chance and he is part of a winning run – means he remains but suppose money talks?

Peck 8/10 – Another good performance. I felt we kind of bypassed midfield at times and went down the sides more but he did what he needed. A few tackles, blocks and also involved in some attacks and contributed in the move to the third goal. He kept the ball moving and going forward at pace rather than the slow (too many touches) we saw from him earlier in the season. Scored another goal too – from the penalty spot and nice to see him get one in front of the Kop end. Incredible he waited so long for a goal and now has three in three games!

Brooks 8.5/10 - When you watch him play like that, you think why can he not play like that more often? Wingers are a bit like that but Brooks can be maddeningly inconsistent. My sense of frustration is that he has so much ability – he is quick, strong and can when he does it, go down both sides. He has everything to go on and be a top player if he wants it and sometimes I question his desire (might be harsh but being honest) as he has games like this too infrequently. However, he has played quite well in recent weeks but took it to a new level yesterday. He began working hard to do the defensive stuff with Seriki and he contributed hugely to keeping Thomas quiet. As the game went on and particularly second half, he became a massive threat attacking wise. He had a few shots first half that were saved but then he really started to open himself up after the break. Beat his man down the side – did not always come inside, linked with Seriki in terms of overloads and had more chances. He had one shot blocked; another over and just narrowly missed a cross that was a bit behind him from Bamford. He then won the penalty with a great run to begin with and then got on the end of it and played a one two and was brought down. He deserved a goal yesterday for his performance. Those two (him and Seriki) gave us a tantalising look into what a pairing they can be – if they can replicate even close to those levels. They were outstanding yesterday down that side and were positive all game.

Hamer 7.5/10 – Tricky to mark as thought he was a bit frustrating at times in general play and gave it away a few times and sort of ambled back in the early stages. He seemed to not always make the right decisions but he is so dangerous and of course finds those big moments. He had a few decent balls that we nearly got on the end of and a good run first half too. Thought he got pulled back on one ball forward he seemed to be in? His corners were a constant threat too and we had so many chances from them. His shot early second half would have gone in, if it had been a few yards to the left but an exquisite effort. Tired at times and you can see he has not been playing regularly and sure this week, he will be rotated with O’Hare/Brooks.

Campbell 5.5/10 – Thought he was our weakest starter and was almost trying too hard against his former club. Few times he lost out physically or got harried out of it. Made some runs down the sides but did not quite come off. Was an outlet but not sure he had many clear chances or efforts on goal and the threats came from elsewhere. Did set up the penalty with a clever back flick. Rare full 90 minutes which means he will not start in the week you would not think?

Bamford 7.5/10 – Did his job for the team with some nice hold up, running the channels and winning free kicks. Intelligent footballer who seems to know where to beat and gets his body into positions to allow him to keep/shield it. Had a few shots blocked but then got his goal with a lovely run and header after the sublime cross from Seriki. After the break quieter and he should have found Brooks for a fourth but he kept running in behind. Came off to give him a break as not sure he can play full games currently.

Subs -

Bindon 7.5/10 – He had been a bit of a symbol of the Selles period – being his former player and his signing. He struggled in a team that could not buy a result and rightly was taken out when we signed a flurry of more experienced centre backs. Not got a sniff since then and Wilder never seems to discuss him when he talks about loan players. I do expect him to go back in January (although we’d need to replace him as that would leave us light) and does not seem to have the physicality for the Championship but yesterday he did really well. Came on and won headers/tackles and was first to the ball and used it well when he had it. Made one last ditch block to deny maybe a certain goal. Of course, might be easier coming in to a game when we are 3-0 up but credit to him and at least showed Wilder he can be a viable option perhaps.

Cannon 6/10 – Came on and did not see much of the ball really. We went down the sides more but he did have a few runs/hold up moments but generally quiet. The game was won and was about just managing time after this but we did not look as dangerous forward wise after Bamford went off.

Soumare 5/10 – I thought that he looked a bit all over the place when he came on. Positionally we saw a big drop off as he started hunting for the ball, rather than staying in the area Riedewald had occupied. He seems to lack discipline at times. Also, his first touch was not great. Peck was screaming at him to keep the ball. He is a decent athlete but I am not totally convinced by him and not sure he is someone I would look to sign permanently – hence why he may depart in January.

O’Hare 6/10 – Busy, as he always is and got around, pressed and also linked well with others. Put over the cross that nearly led to a Burrows goal.

Burrows – Well forward which showed our domination as it was already 4-0! He put over a few crosses but one should have been pulled back. He also missed a decent chance when he sort of botched his header at the far post. Expect he may start on Tuesday as we rotate around again.

Manager: Wilder 9/10 – Three more points, four goals, a clean sheet and we completely dismantled a decent Stoke team. We exploited their weaknesses as we poured forward on the break but also overloaded the sides too. Set plays we were a constant threat. We looked like scoring all game. It was 4-0 and it maybe flattered Stoke. They had started ok but then could not deal with the corners and as the game went on, we created things from all over the field – general play and set plays. We were totally at it – in terms of winning first and second balls. We forced their dangerous players to go the other way and it was probably our best, and most complete performance of the season against a very well coached side normally. Massive praise to Wilder for getting things turned around and getting us playing well and with confidence. A lot of people (including me!) were panicking and feeling it was not much better – it was better but I still maintain not by that much but the last month or so, we have really upped the levels and now look like scoring. We are not just nicking games – we are now controlling games, scoring lots of goals and have largely tightened up at the back. We need to keep it going and he seems quite focused on maintaining the improvements. We will not keep winning every game and it might be we have a dip round the corner but if we can win more than we lose- then we will keep climbing the table. Big credit that now we look an entertaining side now too. Often there was a lot of discussion about us being dull last year, despite winning but recently we have seen a swagger and almost swash buckle quality that we have not seen for some time under Wilder – right back to that Premier League season when we finished 9th.

Stoke – Robins is a manager I have always liked. Talks honestly, seems a decent bloke and takes responsibility when things go wrong (he did yesterday). He did a great job at Coventry and ridiculous he got sacked but Lampard to be fair has taken things on a level. However, Stoke a made a smart move getting him before other Championship clubs and after a so-so season last year, he has moulded them into a decent side that does not concede many but had some big free scoring wins this year too. Player wise, it is a bit of a mix of experience and youth but they have pace and players who can get at you and a variety of scoring options. They had been right at the top but had dropped off. I am still not sure they make the playoffs. I do think there are 6 better teams (or should that be squads) and they might struggle to maintain the intensity they showed to begin the season – which is beginning to happen on recent performances and form. Still, they should not be anywhere near a relegation battle this time around.

In terms of the game yesterday, they began ok and had a few corners. It seemed an even game but their weak links became apparent as they could not deal with the corners and we won every single one (McGuinness mostly!) and after they conceded, it knocked them back. They never coped with us running at them on breaks and the wing backs/wingers for us caused them all sorts of issues. They needed to just take the heat out of things and slow it down but it became a bit open and basketbally and we had better performers going forward. The way they shipped the second and third was appalling. Seriki’s is a great strike but a pathetic challenge on him and similarly they did not get close to him or Bamford – just stood motionless – on the next goal. I worry about the lack of leadership in the sense they did not try and sort out the set play issue. Just block McGuinness off or double up (one in front/one behind) to stem this threat but seemed clueless to change it at all. It continued even after the break (Tanganga could have had two). They did not match our energy and desire and just got overrun. They had a fair bit of the ball but was pointless possession with only a few decent moves all game. They got a real thumping and by the end were desperate for full time as it could have been even more embarrassing. The lads at the back were almost screaming, ‘Help!’ every time we overloaded – particularly down our right. I was surprised how poor they were but also I want to give us credit for completely outplaying them individually and collectively.

Opponent Man of the Match – Johansson made 3 or 4 decent saves so he might take it by default as not sure any outfield players stood out? Mubama showed a few flashes but even he missed a good chance.

Opponent Weak link – Take your pick. So many of the attacking options failed to deliver. Bae Jun Ho and Manhoef were totally ineffective throughout and Thomas never really had a kick – as we bottled him up. However, the defence were all over the place. Wilmot and Lawal struggled first half and neither of them could get close to us on corners but the lad Phillips (who we were linked with?) might have been even worse – he was shocking and rounded it off by conceding a penalty. The weak link though probably must be Bocat. He was run completely ragged by Seriki and Brooks all game – not helped by Thomas never coming back at all – he was extremely lazy and undisciplined today.

Referee / Officials – Stephen Martin. Rare you win 4-0 and complain about the referee but I do not think he was great! Thought Campbell and Hamer were pulled back first half. I also thought he let them get away with a series of poor fouls (one where Peck was pulled back somehow escaped a booking when we broke and he did do well to play on). Brooks then commits his first foul and gets carded! They did get two bookings for a pull back on Bamford and then the penalty. Suppose he got the penalty right but he also kept getting in the way when we passed it across.

Crowd/Day Out – For a 4-0 it was a bit flat but when it is so easy then it kind of hard to keep singing. Stoke fans started quite noisy but then of course as the goal went it, became quiet. They did bring a sold out away following but their record at the Lane is awful (last win in December 2017) and only won 2 of 16 at the Lane. Good crowd though (helped by big away following) to say it was just before Xmas and the weather was not great.

1st … to ask was their last win 2007 not 2017? Think it was when a fan ran on to confront Robbo.

Great report as always. Cooper didn't have much to do but looked back to his best fitness-wise and his distribution was good. Him, Hamer and Campbell perhaps deserve an extra half a point - Hamer for his excellent corners and intelligent play - so much better than Peck's corners. Very rare indeed that you give a 9/10 so that is praise indeed for Seriki.

A few were unsure about the starting line-up but as it turned out CW got it spot on. All of a sudden we look a good team again, dangerous in attack, defensively solid with good options on the bench. Huge credit to Wilder for getting the most out of this set of players. They must be full of confidence now and I wouldn't bet against us winning two of the next three.

People talking about promotion are probably over-optimistic. Second place is beyond us given the start we had but if we are anywhere near the play offs by the end of the season (we all know what will happen if we qualify) it will be an excellent recovery.

A very pleasurable read, thanks Deadbat
While I'm not one to quibble about your ratings, I always think you make the effort to write them so you're entitled to the marks you give. I just thought Sydie was superb yesterday. I lost count of the number of times he won the ball back for us just by getting a foot in or by being in the right place to make an interception. There was one passage of play in the second half where he won the ball back and passed it, only for a team mate to lose it again and then Sydie won it back again instantly and this happened 3 times in the same passage of play! He has really flourished since he's had a proper midfield partner in Riedewald and his confidence is now sky high since he scored his first goal. For me, he's currently our most important player and if he keeps this form up allied with goals, I imagine Premier League clubs will be sniffing around.

Having said all that, I completely agree with you on Seriki and Brooks, and it's brilliant that our best performers are all academy products.

Just a final word on McGuinness and our success at winning all the first balls. Prior to yesterday, I thought McGuinness was a poor player and for his size, won very little in the air. He won everything in the air yesterday (as did Bindon when he came on) and I reckon credit should probably go to Wilder and the coaching staff as I would think they've been doing a lot of work with the players on this area. I think it's easy to think a player has suddenly just started playing well and they had the ability all the time, however I think this comes from the coaching team in getting that out of them.

That was a really enjoyable read. I missed the match yesterday as I was stuck at work and couldn’t swap shift or get a leave day.

A couple of points I’d like to make.

I fully agree with the point about the Seriki/Brooks partnership. They look tailor made for each other down that side. Brooks will help out Seriki with the defensive work (JRS didn’t last season and used to leave the RB horribly exposed) and when we are on the attack, Serikis overlapping runs gives Brooks an extra option besides going inside or outside. (One of my favourite moments at the Derby match was Brooks standing his defender up whilst Seriki made the run behind him and he perfectly timed a pass to him giving him space to get in and put the cross to create the chance that Bamford missed)

I also really rate McCallum, have done since the first time I saw him. He is fast, athletic, great in the air for his size and can cover any role down that side. Last season he provided excellent cover for Burrows but he has taken full advantage of Burrows poor start to the season.

One thing I’ve noticed is that there have been plenty of players that Wilder has signed who have taken time to adapt to our style of play. I remember very few coming in and making an impact straight away and we only really get to see what we’ve signed after 5/10 games. Even though I didn’t go yesterday, McGuinnesses goal was reminiscent of peak Jack O’Connell in the opposition box, and recently I’ve also seen shades of Paul Coutts in Riedewald as he really seems to make the Blades tick.

Much like you, I’m not really entertaining thoughts of the play offs as there is a lot of moving parts and we need to win a lot of games between now and the end of the season, but I think this season what we need to go is focussing on keeping on improving, developing and building with an eye on pushing from promotion next season. If we sneak in the play offs this season then great but we shouldn’t really have any real expectations of it at this point

Great to watch, and thankfully we see to have ditched the tippy tappy passing around at the back, out to the wing then back again. It was much more direct, sometimes long balls, sometimes out to the wings and then forward with pace, allied to some excellent passing.

Best performance since Villa September 2018.

You know we've played well when you see these ratings!

Great to watch, and thankfully we see to have ditched the tippy tappy passing around at the back, out to the wing then back again.

Best performance since Villa September 2018.

Agree regards style of play….best performance since Villa 18.
We played with a swagger and were so dominant we looked a division above a really poor Stoke team….
reminded me of some of our games in league 1 when you were just waiting for us to score more goals.

The Stoke fans are furious saying it’s their worse display for about 5 years.
They say that they’ve been in every game this season and were slightly unlucky to lose some of their previous games.
They say their game against Coventry was pretty even so they thought they were one of the better teams in this division
But yesterday they were pretty much outclassed.

Still can’t work out if it’s us that so good or the opposition playing so poorly.

I've just read the Pinch ratings and Peck gets a 5, joint lowest, for being sloppy and giving the ball away apparently. That aside what a transformation. This is a poor division with no-one to fear. Best not to have expectations and just see how far we can go and enjoy the ride.

The most entertaining match since we beat Villa and Derby. But we kept up our performance levels for the entire match. Great stuff.

Seriki def MOTM , fantastic on the front foot football & resounding win . Played at a high tempo & pressed Stoke hard out of possession consistently putting them on the back foot . Even McGuiness a man whose had the sharp end of my tongue to date had a good game up to getting injured .
Play like that lads & no one in this division who’s gonna to want to come up against us .
Keep up the good work lads , bring on Tuesday ⚔️⚔️⚔️

My first thought about Seriki’s performance was “surely he gets a Deadbat 9/10”. Thanks for not letting me down.

Just need The Pinch to give him a 6.5/10 now and we’ll know how good a performance it was!

Seriki unleashed is what we've wanted for weeks. He terrorised Stoke down the flanks and Brooks was the perfect foil. Both deserving of the scores given. We've gone long and look much better for it. Thought Stoke had the midfield for the first half hour but we battled back. McCallum Mcguiness and Tanganga cut out Stokes ploy of hitting it out wide to the wing. Bidon did the same when he came on. Not sure if the new style is by design or accident as we have been wedded to 4-2-3-1 tippy tappy for too long.

Its too early to talk about the play offs. We have had some shocking performances so far and not just all under Selles. Credit to the coaching staff for the tactical set up. We looked threatening from corners again.

The momentum has to be maintained over the next five or six games. We can't afford to de rail progress by unsettling the team make up as a consequence of the JTW so incomings will need careful consideration now. The shirt is for Seriki and Brooks to lose imo. Others will have to produce the same levels to get in. Other than another quality goalkeeper to challenge Cooper and cover at RB and RW I'm not sure we need anymore adding to the squad. JTW will be a defining moment for our season. Hamer and Cannon come into play as potential outgoings. It will be interesting to see how the owners react to big money offers coming in

Watched Stoke blog from back of BLLT, and the Blades fans were really loud. Still think with all negativity and false dawns over the past few years many are still apprehensive when watching at home. But I can see and hear it's steadily coming back.

I've just read the Pinch ratings and Peck gets a 5, joint lowest, for being sloppy and giving the ball away apparently. That aside what a transformation. This is a poor division with no-one to fear. Best not to have expectations and just see how far we can go and enjoy the ride.
Riley Roberts seems to know his stuff, however his marks can be a bit strange at times
