The interesting thing for me is that the Independent article is a clear "come and get me" to clubs higher in the league. He says that if a job came along which was better for him, he'd go, and talks about wanting to manage in the Premier League without adding the "but I want to do so with [insert current club]" tag, which managers usually add in these situations. When combined with his pre-season talk about not expecting to be promoted, because they basically have the same squad as last season, it suggests to me that he doesn't really believe the current run will last, and wants someone to come in while he's looking good. If Wednesday's season drops away now, it will be difficult to see where his managerial career goes from there after such a succession of failures.
It all contrasts greatly with Wilson at United, where you get a real sense that he's building something, and that it's a work in progress. You feel as if he can see where he wants to go to make the team much better yet. The impression is that Wilson's 'work in progress' is as good as Megson's finished product.
I don't know whether we'll finish above or below Wednesday this year - or whether either or both teams will get promoted - but I think Wilson has the ability to build a better team over time.
