In depth, statistics based analysis along the lines of 6.7% later on my Blog at

Stay tuned…..

Our U23 team seems to be struggling. Is this an indication that the academy is finding it hard to recruit and retain players of the quality required or is it more to do with the club using this competition to experiment and play trialists?

The u23s and u18s have lost nearly every game this season but it seems we are not prioritising that aspect of our club currently. Surely it's about getting the good 14-15 year old from the area and keeping them but hard with only having Academy 2 status.

I love Academy Football. Because, you deliberately don't play your best side every week. And, if you do, you definitely don't play them in their correct position. It's about players learning to play. Ashton Hall played the John Egan middle of a three role today. I haven't seen him do that before. He was superb. Just a joy to watch. But, you know, Garth Crooks, have you seen what the Pigs have said today, Mark from Pitsmoooor. Too much noise, not enough lad kick ball. Our U23s are giving lads the chance to play football. Yes, we're experimenting, because that's what you're supposed to do at this level.

Could do with a competitive reserve team for fitness (if the PL allowed it) and the U23s to experiment and bring the younger lads on.

Results might not be good now but that's not the end game. Its about player development and putting young lads in strange or difficult positions on the pitch. Those who survive and conquer become better players mentally (and probably technically) and could go on to have careers in the game.

I'm comfortable with Uniteds current strategy.

I've published my Blog from the U23s away at Millwall. I run the rule over new signing Iliman Ndiaye. I mention trialist Ta'shee Andall-Gibbons in passing. And, I try to explain how a modern, private academy like Rising Ballers works. Emphasise "try". And Cloudwater Bermo Juice Bar. Here....
