In regards to individual players, has there ever been a bigger turnaround than the story of Paul Coutts?

From boos, lethargic displays and the transfer list to midfield maestro, lynchpin and captain of the team responsible for the best ever win at their place.

I know Booker had a rough start to his Blades career but surly Coutts' rise from obscurity takes some beating?

I think what it's taught me is that a sustained period of injury, anything north of 6 months for example, takes a huge amount of time to get over. And anyone who misses pre-season can struggle for the rest of the season.

Combine that with poor form, low confidence and being played out of position and Coutts was doomed from the start until the messiah arrives as manager.

We've all learnt a lot from the example of Coutts.

The power of.....

A quality manager
A sustained run without injury
Ever increasing fitness
Playing in a proper team

I've always thought Paul Coutts had a touch of class about him. Glad the lads proved it in his last season and a bit.

Thought this was a thread about Brooks' nutmeg on the halfway line. Or the turnaround when Duffy scored as Wednesday fans were still celebrating :)

In his first season I knicknamed him "Ikea" cos if you threw an Ikea wardrobe on the pitch at the same time you'd be pushed to spot the difference. In some matches the wardrobe would have better optima stats.
Now, agree with the OP and would be the first player on my team sheet. Totally deserves the captains armband when called for. What a player. Keep up the good work Couttsy. UTB.

Coutts really struggled with injuries. There was always a player in there somewhere. He could of gone one of two ways, either got back on track and revealed his full potential or ended up like James Wallace. The game against Bradford at home under Adkins was the first time he absolutely bossed a game for us if anyone can remember

In the first moments we were attacking down their right, Coutts put his foot on it and rolled the ball forward a couple of revolutions, the way him and Fleck settled in to the game , immediately, kind of set the tone.

It’s happened the other way round as well - Monty started as a good young prospect and ended up a traffic cone.
