When I was a young lad, we played top trumps.

We had cards with military vehicles, and super cars from memory - also a football players deck. Malcolm Mcdonald was best card in pack. Transfer fee, a record, £330,000 from memory.

I know it was 1975 or thereabouts and time has moved on, but to my mind football has gone bonkers.

On Sky TV this evening it was reported that some young fella from Chelsea reserves was looking for a transfer, and £160,000 per week in wages.

When you think what our nurses and the good people in the fire brigade, and our bobbies earn it seems so wrong. (Excluding the authorities that pervaded the gents at Carrow Road and pinched the smokes).

Bring back top trumps and the old days.

Well before my time, but he wasn’t a professional in athletics was he? Or does professional cover any type of sport, barring him from running competition?

Still got some. Any time we went to a toy fair Ms Crab bought me some.

I bought the boy a pack of “Football superstar” top trumps last year. They missed Sharp out but the rest are pretty good.

Can you still get Porn Top Trumps?

Seem to remember Helen from Macclesfield scored the most points in the ‘most game bird’ section of the Readers wives category.

Can’t quite remember all the other categories but do recall the pre internet days being comparatively tame, apart from the set that my French penfriend brought over. Good gracious they were a shocker!

Ah the days of innocence, youth and Alex Sabella!

He was a professional “athlete” at a time when track and field athletics was totally amateur. So he wasn’t allowed to cross over.

I'm to old for top trumps. We did wrestlers and yes they were in black and white, in fact when I think back life seemed to be in black and white. My prized card was Billy Two Rivers. Other like Les Kellet, Mick McManus, kendo Nagasaki, etc

Dunno why, but when I played when I was a kid, I was always buzzing when I got this one if we played the F1 set.................
