Wilder got critisised for not playing open , expansive, entertaining , attacking football , ,, is it just not a possibility that with his experience ( and that of his coaching staff) they realised that despite having a team with potential flair , if they were all allowed off the leash we would concede too many ,so players had to be held back relying on 1 or 2 goals to win us a game

Almost like he knew what he was doing!

Maybe they Board would do well to remember that theory and ideals need to be mixed in with reality and pragmatism.

It wasn’t as if they were likely to come from left field with no experience of running a football club and suddenly show everyone how it should be done.

They’d have to be either arrogant or naive beyond belief. Or both.

Yep. It's ultimately about controlling games. Last season we controlled about 35. We didn't win them all, but no manager in the world can guarantee that. The job of the manager is to set the players at his disposal up in the most effective way to achieve control of the games and to trust that it'll manifest itself into results more often than not. It's that simple. Luck over a large sample size such as a football season isn't a huge factor (maybe injuries aside). You generally finish where you deserve too in the league table.

This season our control of games has been less than 20 minutes combined (mainly Bristol City). when we should've been building on last season. The manager last season recognised the games we controlled and didn't control; the new manager talks delusionally about being the better side in the pre and post match interviews. That's the really worrying thing: he doesn't have the analytical skills to analyse the matches. Every game is a basketball game at best.

Absolutely spot on the money

Possibly but that was a different team to this. At the moment it looks like he worked wonders getting something of Brooks and Campbell!

This season we choke every game
Have to be in it to choke. The very notion of choking a game is that you are in a winning position and fumble it. Like the playoff final and many of wilders games last season that ultimately cost us promotion. This season we’ve not been in contention of choking a game because we’ve just been battered every week

Excellent point….i do remember last season Wilder sometimes commenting about “control” and saying he had concerns in spells of some matches because altho it might have looked entertaining to the fans in the stands, he didn’t want matches turning into open attacking end to end basketball matches.

This season under Selles we’re struggling to create chances and when we’re losing we go more positive pushing more men forward
However when we have numbers upfield we look really open and vulnerable at the back when opposition teams catch us on the break using pace.

The only applicable etc is that Wilder and HIS squad choked when it mattered.
It was another nearly season. But nearly being the operative word. A freak season of Leeds and Burnley both breaking 100 points.

And then what ifs in the play off final. (2nd stands), Brooks scores chance, Moore doesn't do a stupid pass.

You can say "choked" but you've got to get into that position in the first place. Which means that you've delivered results by that point already.
