Interesting extract here..

"Criticised for lacking imports, McKinna took his chequebook overseas during the off-season...Plenty of eyebrows were raised but Nicky Travis, Mike McGlinchey and Matt Crowell have shown they can pass the ball as well as any Brazilian. And they have tempered the Mariner's much-maligned long-ball style."

Even allowing for typical Aussie tongue-in-cheek writing I still can't help but think how remarkably appropriate this little extract is!

Nicky Travis, eh?

McKinna in!

:D

Can't speak for the other clubs but i regulary watch football here in Oz and it's shite. My sons old under 14 team drop less boll**s and tackle harder.
I went to watch Robbie Fowler score 2 against us at the Gold Coast the other day in front of 2,700 fans and the train didn't turn up for an hour after the game.
I'll stick to watching it on tv for the forseable future.

Get rid of these clubs. They are a waste of time!!!

The only club that would have been of benefit was the Brazilian one. And they seem to have run a mile after seeing how we play.

No the contact we had with them ( a director) died of cancer - it was reported in the Star, the official site and in the match day programme. Obviously this is the clubs fault!!

Why? What harm are they doing?

Only Chengdu are directly owned by the Blades (and they only cost us £200K) - all the rest are owned by McCabe.

They might not be unearthing the next Pele for us (yet) - but they do give some of our youngsters first team experiences (and jobs for those who don't make it in England ie Travis and Ashmore). They raise the profile of the club overseas - are a key part of the business model that seems to impress so many in the football world - and helps fans like us and Kyopityus link up too.

They might not be brilliantly productive - but they are harmless enough.

The talks broke down a little when our main link between the clubs sadly passed away.

I understand someone else is to be assigned the task of seeing if we can continue with the initial ideas.
