Quote from today's Bristol Evening Post preview of tomorrow's match:-

"Flint anticipates a hard fought encounter in which set pieces could prove decisive. Both teams possess plenty of height ........"

Which Sheffield United have they been watching?????

Nailed on nil nil.
We'll shut up shop and play for the draw

Brilliant, another well informed journalist that watched Match of the Day years ago and hasn't seen Sheffield United since. Never mind, am sure Bassett will put out his best team.

If he's right, we've f***ed it! United have been awful defending set plays all season and just as bad at the other end of the park. Have we scored a league goal from a corner yet this season?

my prediction for tomorrow which for me is near enough certain we will concede at least 1 goal from a corner where a ball where our defenders will be panicking not knowing who to mark

Have they been looking at our premier league promotion season DVD?

It's amazing how much our time in the top flight under Bassett has shaped the conceptions of us ever since.

We're a strong, physical, big bunch of cloggers and will be for some time.

I see us sneaking it today if clough plays the right team.
Murphs and Jcr bombing the wings and getting behind them, done and higgopotamus up front throwing themselves at everything they put into the box.
Sit back and go for nil nil and we could get mullered.

Given the opposition, I'd start Higgo if he's fit. Appreciate that nullifies our attacking threat a bit but we need some height and muscle against this lot (in both boxes). Horses for courses.

This guy wants sacking, were so small I wouldn't be shocked if clough came out of the tunnel dressed as snow white..

You reap what you sow. Yet, astonishingly, many S2 Neanderthals want it back.....

Gerrituptfield. Kick it Long, Kick it Hard, Kick it High.

Agreed

DIsagreed!

How can anyone say Higdon would be in our best team under any circumstances? Also, based on JCR's last few performances he more than deserves a rest. The guy is an impact sub, he blows hot and cold way too often and just isn't consistent enough. We also don't have a pairing good enough to play 2 in central midfield, we have to have 3.

I would personally be playing:

Howard/Taylor
Brayford Basham McEveley Harris
Doyle Reed
Coutts Baxter Murphy
Done

However, I suspect we will, in fact, see JCR start on the right and Reed making way for Coutts in the middle. We really could do with Flynn back, just not a fan of JCR starting.

If he does play Higdon up top Clough has got to play another forward alongside him. On his own Higdon gets isolated too easily.

A partner upfront would be needed to wheel him into position from time-to-time as the play passes him by ........

Whoever this "journalist" is that wrote this article ..... he must be pissed !!! We MUST have, by some distance, the shortest squad in all of the top 4 divisions and suffered badly for it all season. If we sat alternate players on teammates shoulders for set pieces we would still struggle to have sufficient height to defend.

Looked like a quote from the City CH to me rather than a statement by the journo

And who would want that shit permiership football when, in your 4th year in the third division, you almost outpassed Gillingam, almost had a shot on goal, and almost got a bore draw, but unfortunatley lost 2-0. At least we can "out ethos" this division.

heh. i get the point alco but it's not about out ethos ing ;)
basically if you start in the third playing football on the floor you are more compatible with the higher divisions. we could clog our way out and then spend three seasons in the championship changing all of the squad until we are ready to challenge at that level OR compete immediately because we already have the players and style to compete at that level

allegedly ;)
keep the faith

I'll take your word for it super_pig :)

It just makes me laugh. We've not played direct football for more than 5 years, and this tippy tappy stuff that was going to propel us out of the mire has coincided with the worst period in the club's history

Whilst nobody wants to go back to the Basset era, and god forbid Blackwell, let's not lose sight of the fact that a flexible strategy will always win out.

Pinchy, and those wrapped up in apologising for our past, have been proved spectacularly wrong. Yet some still keep digging. "Give it time...Give it time"
