Time to embrace 3-5-2

"We sould be getting out of this league or at least challenging to get out of this league with any formation."

???

Given that we haven't done this (properly) in five long seasons, shouldn't we be encouraging a system that offers a bit of hope we can finally escape this Third Division hell-hole?
Yes play 3-5-2 . . . . . . But please play it with young new recruits. These wankers have let both us and themselves down badly this season. I wouldn't use a moderately successful spell and change of formation to justify keeping them.

I don't expect Adkins to recruit for 3-5-2 (if he stays). But next season we should still at least have the sort of options for it we have now - not ideal, but workable. We'll just have to replace Baptiste in the RCB position. Basham and Done will still be here to play the wing back positions. The midfielders will still be here and so will Adams and Sharp. So it should still at the least be a good plan B.

Even recruiting the right players for 4-4-2 should help us improve on the current 3-5-2 option. As well as defenders we'd need to recruit wingers and at least one decent, athletic central midfielder and those players could also slot into 3-5-2. I think there's usually room for at least one out and out winger in a 3-5-2, we're seeing it more and more in the modern game. The wing backs don't both have to be good defensively, especially if the rest of the team allows for it. So I'm hoping to see us sign two wingers as I'd want to see at least one start in either formation.

We have certainly looked more comfortable in the last few games, but like you say we need some decent signings in key positions. I'd be happy to keep Edgar IF we could keep Baptiste, however I doubt either will be with us next season which means the CB positions (once again!) should be a top priority. Unless K Wallace can develop into that LWB role then that's another area that needs strengthening. In fact, leaving aside Woolford, who I hope will move on in the summer, we really could do with one if not two natural left side players. Feel for Done as currently he's playing out of position and on his wrong side. I'd like to see him challenging up front again as I think that is his best position and hope he doesn't leave as a victim of his own versatility as I love his enthusiasm and tenacity - if the rest of the team had his attitude, I believe we'd be in a much better position. Really hope we don't keep Hammond and that means we'll need a more mobile 'destroyer' and ideally a strong goalscoring attacking midfielder (or two!).

I still think we've got too many 'samey' players - if you look at the RWB position, we've got Brayford, who I think is better suited to this role than regular RB, Basham seems to have found form there and arguably it's Flynn's best position too. Done could play it too given that he's right footed and has been playing LWB.

Apart from that, we should be fine!

Pretty sure Done's left footed isn't he? Played much of his career at LM or LB
