Time to dump Simonsen

I think we need to look at bringing a new keeper in, as Simmo is not good enough, doesn't inspire confidence and is too weak when crosses come in.

Another line of thought is that the supporters can also see the weaknesses in his game a lot more, as we have been spoiled by having some great keepers over the last 20 odd years. Alan Kelly, Simon Tracey and Paddy Kenny were all excellent keepers.

The shame is we had Bennet (who I don't think is a great keeper) who has gone on to be part of a very difficult to beat Huddersfield side.

I think this is one to measure Wilson on. Though I think his hands are too tied to address our dud forward line due to cost, I can't accept that we can't afford to replace Simmo with a better keeper. He's had enough time to see what we already know.

I'm reminded of McCabe exposing his cluelessness on the last phone in. "I can't believe we were relegated with players like Simmo anf Ched" when in fact we were relegated because of players like Simmo and Ched.

Hit the nail on the head Sitwell.
Change the keeper and improve at a stroke the confidence of the back 4
Unless Wilson admits to his failure we will achieve nothing.
One of the worst keepers seen at the lane for a long time.
Cost us goals last season, sticks on his line, not strong enough.
Keep playing him and season will be over my March.

I have to say that having now been able to see the highlights on B/P he was fouled for the second goal, without any doubt hsaving viewed it a number of times.
Still think we could do a lot better with a keeper who does not stay on his line which must unsettle the defence.
Strange very few fans rate him, except Danny Wilson

I haven't seen the goal again yet, but the moaning probably stems from the fact that they targeted him all game. If you read back our twitter stream, I mentioned early in the first half that their main tactic appeared to be ignore the ball and clatter the keeper/anyone else you can get to.

Don't get me started on the linesman's inability to stop a foul throw, even having been prompted before hand by us directly behind him.

I spotted at least 2 foul throws one in each half.

All in all, the way we sat back after half an hour and the whole of the second half, we got what we deserved really.

One thing i will praise Wilson for is the midfield selection. Four central midfielders was exactly what we needed yesterday. The likes of Flynn playing yesterday would have got bullied out of the game.

Simonsen, at fault or not for either goal, he doesn't inspire me with the greatest of confidence, and if the fans feel like that, then how must the four in front of him feel?

Move on....bring on Preston.

Whether he was fouled or not is beside the point. His decision making is terrible. For the past two seasons he has consistently flapped and cost us goals. When you are defending a one goal lead, and have his track history, you don't come through a crowd of 6' plus players to try and punch a ball eight yards out; you let your defenders deal with it.

The dropped catch in the first half when they hit the post was criminal. Every time he comes near the ball everyone in the ground (including the back four) shit themselves. He is a liability.

Also, the fact he no longer applauds the crowd is out of order.

Would you with the stick he gets?

At an average match there are around 16,000 fans; a few hundred of who maybe give him (and other players) stick. It's hardly fair to not applaud the vast majority of fans just because you're getting stick about mistakes you have made. Monty and Quinny have often been targeted by the boo boys but they respond by showing their passion and trying to get the fans behind them; not by throwing the rattle out of the pram.

I am disapointed to have to say this (as I would have loved to have been proved wrong for the good of United) but I did give a warning last season as to the frailties of Simmo.

His poor handling (too often he fails to catch the ball and hold it), his lack of command in the area, and the lack of communication with his defenders means to methat he his not up to the job for us.

His lack of technique in going for high centres borders upon amateurish. He regularly loses out to challenges, whether they be fair or otherwise, without deploying the age-old technique of raising one knee to deter would be challengers and a clear call of "Keepers ball" to warn defenders and attackers alike of his intent to get the ball.

United need to either get a new goalie or goalie coach before it is too late

the boo boys only get started if they perceive someone as not being good enough (on present form) for the team.. that is why monty gets it (he's crap).. quinny got it (in his elpiton phase he 'was' crap) and now simmo is getting it because he has cost us about ten games in the last year.. stop feeling sorry for him.. he earns more in one week than i do in a year and he's f**king useless

All the above are third choice keepers for Premier League teams and none has played in a league game so far this season.
It must be soul-destroying to train all week and never even get on the bench.
Can’t we persuade one of them to come on loan to us for three months?
That would take us through to the January transfer window when we can reassess and sign somebody more permanent.
We may be able to loan Simonsen and Aksalu out to offset the wages.
Either way, what a difference having a quality keeper could make for the next 14 league matches (42 points at stake)
Wilson has been saying he wanted a new keeper since pre-season, now is the time for The Board to back him.

Good idea, but I expect their wages are way out of our league (unless we can persuade the loaning club to pay part of the wages).
