Maybe this is false nostalgia, but I remember throw-ins being a way for a team to keep possession.

Over the last couple of years, our throw in are either straight backwards, which is fine, or just randomly chucked in the air in someone's direction. There's hardly any movement from players wanting the ball. We rarely throw the ball to someone's feet, which is where I believe you're meant to throw the ball.

We seem to have no plan with ours. Still throwing them high even though we don't have much height in the team to compete in the air.

Throw Ins are the least of our problems FFS
What a pointless thread you should start one about corners and another one about goalkicks and what about one about shinpads of the lack of in some cases

I agree with the above why are we talking about throw ins when we have no centre backs, a farmer in CDM, a shit manager and awful owners.

That being said i do agree with you very much so but it’s just the least of our worries right now

Tbf, corners are a massive problem!! The amount of chances we get - if we even sorted corners and can score, despite us being dog sh*t we could still potentially win a match!!

How depressing to even think like this ..

Honestly I’m quite happy to hear about and talk about something other than the issues of our lack of centre-back options etc. that we’ve all just repeated so many many times over the past two weeks.
I don’t think it is nostalgia: I think Baldock, Basham, Fleck, Duffy, Enda, O’Connel had set patterns for throw-ins that meant we were virtually guaranteed to retain possession. Everyone seemed to know exactly when and where to move to make the little space, release the throw in, and work the ball to feet between each other. There were set throw-ins: Enda throwing it in and immediately sprinting towards the byline to receive a flick down the line; Basham running in late to the byline a few feet inside the penalty area etc.
I don’t know if it was just that those players were together so long and so well practised, or drilled, or just on the same wavelength.
I definitely think it’s not been at that level for some time, and I also think it’s not irrelevant. If we’re turning over possession at most of our own throw-ins it’s like passing straight to the opposition 15-20 times a match.
