Quite looking forward to it don't why because it is only Yeovil. Got a feeling it could be quite a good game, they have a new boss, we can go 2nd with no one else playing and the players will want to bounce back from the Carlisle defeat. Not expecting a big crowd maybe 16k however this game was part of a deal when buying a notts county ticket but i do think the Hartlepool game was the other option. Just wondered what people were thinking can you get excited about Yeovil?? Hoping GJ doesn't get instant new manager syndrome.

The omens aren't that good (if you believe that rubbish). Yeovil have a new manager and ours has just won Manager of the month.

What might be more interesting could be the omissions from the squad or those taking part in the game. It was notable that Quin wasn't in the squad and Monty was not used. Are they being protected ready for sale? Watch this space.

Sorry, I meant to sstate that Quinny and Monty were not used in the game against Salisbury......Doh!

I really enjoy night matches, there is something special about watching a game under lights. I think the crowd will be closer to 19k and I fully expect it to be the strongest side available, irrespective of any possible deals. A 2-0 win will see us back in 2nd.

I'm looking forward to tonight's match too, I've always enjoyed Tuesday night matches at the Lane, and I quite like doing home & away fixtures v teams so as I did the away trip, the home game completes the set. Got a trial at a new job this afternoon so will have to blast up the M1 quick smart afterwards.

Think it'll be a decent game, I had similar sentiments re. Quinn for the Salisbury match, although Monty leaving looks more of a realistic transfer at the moment.

I'll go with that. The three points is the only thing that matters, however it would be good to bump that goal difference up a bit, lets hope for 5-0!!

A win and 3 points takes us to 50 points, nice. Does that mean we've avoided relegation?

We won't be going all out for a 5-0 when we've got a tricky trip to Bury on the horizon, after fielding a strong team on Saturday. I think there's value on betting on Under 2.5 goals, personally, despite something like 80% of our home games being over 2.5 goals.

Anyway, this assumes that we will even win. I doubt Yeovil are going to roll over for us. It won't be an easy game.

I'm looking forwards to it, and i think we will get a win.

I base this opinion on the fact that we've come up against lower down the league at home, we are generally a lot better than them, and usually play them off the park. I think it will be another win tonight.

There's always a disaster around the corner with us and a game when nothing goes right but all things being equal it should be a comfortable win. I'll go for the usual 3-1, time for Macca's 1st goal, the obligatory one from Ched and finally one for Mr Beattie :)

Even money for a Blades, Fleetwood home double tonight ;)

True - having played 9 league games at home, against the "weaker" teams, we have won 8 and drawn 1 (Exeter being the exception). Other than Exeter the only teams we have dropped points to at home are Wednesday, Charlton and Huddersfield. The other game is the win over MK Dons.

Yeovil are fith-bottom and have won 4 out of 24 matches this season.

Sod the 'new manager syndrome' etc. etc. This is the type of game we've got to fill our boots with, as anything against teams like Hudders, Charlton, MK & Pigs (all away) will be a bonus.

Beattie's contract expire today?

No according to the radio last night as part of a pre agreement in his current contract he can still play for us till the end of the month, and then we have first refusal on if we want to extend.

Personally if he see's it out with us till the end of the month I think he'll extend for the remainder of the season.

Thats in the Stir as well. Be nice to see him start tonight but I think DW will go with Porter

No. At the end of the 1980-1 season we were relegated to the fourth division with 14 wins and 12 draws, which in new money equates to 54 points.

I checked that recently and I am pretty sure that no team has been relegated with that many points since 3 for a win came in in 81-82

There was a time when the Blades used to struggle against the lower teams.

It seems that has changed under DW. A comfortable win tonight?

finally the penny seems to have dropped.. there will be a queue of the maestro's many admirers waiting to sign him.. maybe not

We wouldn't have been relegated either under the current points system.
Walsall, Swindon and Gillingham would also have had 54 points with a worse goal difference.
We'd have finished 18th out of 24.

Ah but we would not have gone up in 83-84 if 2 points for a win had applied. Swings and roundabouts...

Bloody hell still in a fight to avoid relegation. Why are'nt we hearing anthing from all those negative people.

But the required points total for safety would still have been significantly more than 50 points regardless of who went down. (Not that I think we're in any danger this season!!)

Edit: Southend went down with 54 points in 1988-9 season and Reading went down with 53 points in 1982-3.

Thanks - so no-one has got down with more points than 54 since 81-82 :-)

Probably not, but to be honest I don't really know. The only reason I found the stats re Southend and Reading is because in both of those seasons we were also in the third division, so I had the records to hand (well, to be accurate - on the book case!)

Is Lowton out tonight as well?

Oh right could of sworn it was the 10th.

Good news if its til the end of the month gives him a number of games to feature in.

I hope him and Ched start against Yeovil.

Chaps,

Been supporting Utd quite a few years; we rarely win and win convincing when we are expected to. Can't see any difference tonight.

We could also go into administration so another 12 points might be needed to ensure against relegation if this possibility became reality :-)
