Good win for the Blades this afternoon - two opportunist goals from Evans, a clean sheet, great pubs around Griffin Park (old school - even opened after the FT whistle much to most Blades fans' delight).
Some observations........
1. Hoskins is not a right midfielder. Far too many time there was too much space/time for the Brentford left midfielder/winger to attack space. A better side would have punished us. We looked more solid defensively down the right hand side when Hoskins went off.
2. Lowton never really managed to get forward as a result thus reducing our attacking options.
3. Williams had a terrible first half but did improve 2nd half - however, longer term I believe Hill will play Left Full Back when Collins/Maguire play in the centre. Williams' awareness and distribution is not good enough
4. Doyle had a good game but benefitted from the fact that both teams looked to play directly. In fact, it was the most direct I have seen United play this season but it was effective because Brentford's back 2 could not cope with the ball through the middle.
5. Evans was outstanding this afternoon - best player on the field - looked to create space/opportunities at all times and was the big difference.
6. Porter won nearly everything in the air and despite not being a fans favourite did a good job for the team today.
I believe we will get a different test on tuesday against Colchester as they like to get the ball down a bit more, but today we stood up, were counted and got a very important three points.
Enjoyed the pre and post match beers at the Griffin and the New Road Inn - full of happy Blades. A good day out.
