Good win for the Blades this afternoon - two opportunist goals from Evans, a clean sheet, great pubs around Griffin Park (old school - even opened after the FT whistle much to most Blades fans' delight).

Some observations........

1. Hoskins is not a right midfielder. Far too many time there was too much space/time for the Brentford left midfielder/winger to attack space. A better side would have punished us. We looked more solid defensively down the right hand side when Hoskins went off.
2. Lowton never really managed to get forward as a result thus reducing our attacking options.
3. Williams had a terrible first half but did improve 2nd half - however, longer term I believe Hill will play Left Full Back when Collins/Maguire play in the centre. Williams' awareness and distribution is not good enough
4. Doyle had a good game but benefitted from the fact that both teams looked to play directly. In fact, it was the most direct I have seen United play this season but it was effective because Brentford's back 2 could not cope with the ball through the middle.
5. Evans was outstanding this afternoon - best player on the field - looked to create space/opportunities at all times and was the big difference.
6. Porter won nearly everything in the air and despite not being a fans favourite did a good job for the team today.

I believe we will get a different test on tuesday against Colchester as they like to get the ball down a bit more, but today we stood up, were counted and got a very important three points.

Enjoyed the pre and post match beers at the Griffin and the New Road Inn - full of happy Blades. A good day out.

1. Deffo. How many times was that bald shithouse unmarked in the first half? Very annoying pointing all the time too. Just needed some white gloves and a dust mask and he could have joined Altern8.

Mickey Flanagan played well for them but that aside a 5/10 Blades perf was plenty to pouch the points . Not back on the promotion express as a result but maybe the derailment can be avoided this time .

Excellent Day Out - Good Company, Excellent Lunch, Liquid Refreshments on all sides of the ground and a 2-0 win What more can one want! ( Beside a dead pigeon a leftover christmas tree and a potential fire hazard!)

Yes - we knocked it long at times but the passage of played which lead to Porter's chance in second half was as good as it gets for me. Thought we got pretty much everything spot on yesterday and could easily have scord 4 or 5.

Ched Evans really has to be the most complete player to ever grace this tier of football. His mix with Porter was excellent.

Their end product was terrible but I wish we had one of their speed merchant on thye bench rather than Cresswell and Beattie.

If the unthinkable happens and we don't go up - one small consolation is I can in all probability go to Brentfod again.

Shoreham Boys - we are here.

What a day, one of the best away days ever for me, stood up, massive crush when we scored, singing non stop for 90 minutes, boozers all over the shop, friendly locals, fuckin' brilliant!

What a day out! Best Blades experience for some years that. Cracking atmosphere on the terraces. Brilliant away support. Few beers in Kew Green beforehand and then beers by the river in Brentford afterwards. Cracking day :)

Agree with most of the above. The defence was rock solid and Maguire was outstanding. Brentford never had a sniff. Other than when Simmo smothered at their players feet in front of us I cannot remember him making a save. Brentford were poor, but we defended very well. We looked dangerous too and they just could not handle Evans. We scored two, their keeper made 2 very good saves (from Porter) and Ched missed a sitter. Could easily have been 4 or 5.

It was not pretty, but who gives a fuck? We knocked it long too often and struggled to retain the ball. But we were rick solid and we took outr chances. It was yet another professional away performance. Very happy with that. Hopefully we can relax and go and put in a similar performance for Colchester and put a bit of difference between us and the pack.

Truly was a great day out. I'd stay in league 1 if it meant more away days like that.
