I'm afraid it was a little acronym I coined for 'BladesMad'. It stands for Teenage Illiterate Lager Drinkers. It was a whimsical and affectionate creation, not intended to give offence.
;)

As for Joe Thompson, I was unaware of his case and join you in your sympathy for him. I was very moved recently by the reception given to Gary Parkinson, who suffers from Locked-in Syndrome, at Middlesborough.

Don't worry Pinchy, no offence taken :)

Was unaware of Gary Parkinson, his illness is dreadful and makes my own injuries pale by comparison, it reminds me of that adage, "There, but for the grace of god, go I". I'm not religious, but illness at any age is sad, so I hope both Gary and Joe, manage to lead fulfilling lives.

Are you unwell yourself?

Pinchy, I'm originally from London. My dad used to take me to watch Fulham (when they had Johnny Haynes and Alan Clarke playing for them), it was when United played at the Cottage that my affection for the Blades developed, so moving to Sheffield was ideal for my football passions.

I had an accident as a 9-year-old. I was run over by a 24-ton lorry, so between 9 and 17 I had 72 operations. The result is that as I've aged the problems with my legs get worse, but I'm a bloody-minded so and so, which has been a big plus in not allowing the injuries to get me down. I don't live too far from t'Lane, and get to as many games as I'm able, and even though the decline of the Blades has been mega-depressing, it doesn't affect my resolve and support of the team. I suppose my screen name sums it all up, take care mate UTB

Sesquipedalianists.

Boo, I am chagrined. It is a long time since we exchanged bellicose disquisitions.

Am I not yet absolved?
First Walthy then you. Why are people paranoid i'm talking about them.

Well done to you. How's the lorry, though? :)

I remember quite a few encounters with Fulham. One that stands out is a twice postponed cup-tie at the Lane that we eventually won 3-1 with a brace from Bill Punton. I can still feel the disappointment of turning up at BDTBL to be told it was off (the second time I think).

I also recall a very fine Fulham team featuring Ray Houghton and one or two others. They played very attractive proper football.

Anyway, keep keeping your chin up!

Cheers Pinchy,

Interesting example of what money can do to a club are Fulham. Without Al Fayed's money Fulham would've gone down the same path as the Blades. As things stand now, even with players who cost a bob or two, it still doesn't guarantee them remaining in the Premiership. But as I said, once I saw the Blades of the Jones, Birchenall, Woodward and Currie era, there was no turning back. Especially savoured the 'silky skills' of the hatchet man called Hockey, a dirtier bastard I've rarely seen.

Keeping my chin up ain't a problem, once a Blade always a.....as I'm sure you're well versed yourself.
