There's only one United

Now we're in the Premier League it's fun to see us occasionally pop up in the gossip columns. Today in The Guardian is the following:

On loan at Sheffield United from Manchester United, Dean Henderson’s largely splendid performances mean his future beyond the end of the current campaign is very much up in the air. Should he depart Bramall Lane, United will be in need of a new goalkeeper and the club already seem to be attempting to get their ducks in a row. Reports from Turkey suggest they have had an £11m bid for Trabzonspur’s Ugurcan Cakir rejected.

Never heard of him, but that's not my point. This is, as far as I can recall, the first time I've ever seen a non-Sheffield paper mentioning both the Blades and Man U in the same article, and referring to us as 'United'.

Brilliant. I've no problem with those from just west of Manchester wanting to use the word, it's more the pundits who won't recognise that "United" doesn't just mean Manchester. We are the original United, play in the city after which we are named and have a team spirit that embodies the meaning, rather than a group of overpaid individuals masquerading as a team.
