Doom and gloom merchants need a check on reality. Yestreday's result was bad but the performance wasn't.

Quotes from the BBC -

"Sheffield United will consider themselves unlucky not to have taken a point from the encounter after spurning a string of opportunities after the break"

"The Blades created a host of second-half chances, with Daniel Bogdanovic's missed free header the best of them"

and for those who like stats 11 corners SUFC - 2 to Cardiff.

Speed has been unlucky so far - we deserved a point yesterday and at Leeds and Middlesborough. We are playing better (although Watford closed us down very quickly yesterday making it harder) Speed just needs more time to get his methods across.

We are far from the worse team in this league and those talking about relegation are just being too pessimistic.

Hopefully the hierarchy at the club aren't believing that or we'll sleepwalk right into League One.
Five goals in 11 games and you think we've been unlucky so far?
That's some bad luck.

We were poor yesterday as we have been most of the season. Watford dominated the 1st half & we were better than them for much of the 2nd. Yes, we had more corners (unfortunately we can't take them very well) but they had more shots on goal and of course scored!

Don't kid yourself - we are very poor at the moment and looking very much like relegation candidates. Our forward line is the slowest & one of the poorest in the Division. We can't score (5 goals in 10 games is shocking) and we let in soft goals. I know he doesn't like to do it but McCabe needs to provide funds to bring in a few decent additions - on loan for now & permanently in the Jan transfer window - otherwise I fear we will struggle to stay up.

If you cannot score and all you do is defend all game there is only one route you will take.
Corner counts are misleading - besides the fact that it is a myth we are any good at them. Most of them never get beyond the first man. Watford should have had a corner instead of scoring but Nos went AWOL and just let the player cross it without any pressure. A better stat is the number of shots on target and how many force the keeper to work. That stat plus our conversion is the worst in the division.

Others around us are improving. Pompey with Lawrence and Kitson have done the sort of business Speed should have done. We got Jordan but Cotterill has picked up Dickenson and the other two from Stoke and they look much better for it.
Preston are picking up results again and Leicester are starting to move up. We are the only ones still sliding with alarming pace.

Yes, a reality check shows me and many others that we are currently on the same number of home defeats on October 2 as we suffered in the whole of last season. It shows that we have scored 0.5 goals per game, whilst conceding around 1.1 per game. It also shows that we are 19th in the table.

The performances are a big part of the game, but we cannot score. We have let in a 3 and a 4 at Bramall Lane. Away from home we seem to be better. The above statistics are not conjecture, they are facts, presented in b&w.

Labelling people as doom and gloom merchants is another of these stupid tags that get tossed around like confetti. The facts at the moment would show that we are in trouble.

We have been left a team bereft of good players by the fat faced fucker from Luton, I mean spending £2m on Henderson? Get a saddle on his back and get him on Blackpool beach. Evans? Waste of time.

If that makes me a doom and gloom merchant then so be it.

We are useless at set plays .. that is why i argued that we couldnt play hoofball (relying as it does on set plays).. the reason for this is that since cotterill left we have noone who strikes the ball decently (ie crisply and accurately.. not just bludgeoning it to death and hoping for the best like evans does).. when did we last score from a corner? i can't remember.. honestly :/
one other thing..our best player.. bartley.. isnt even ours ffs

I'm sorry but this is a case of red and white coloured specs. Please dont misinterpret me as a miserable objectivist TC because I admire anyone who looks at the glass half full and talks up the Blades but if anyone thinks we were unlucky yesterday then they must have been watching a different game to me..........

Watford deservedly won the game. They outplayed us for most of the first half and defended comfortably for the whole of the second. United were devoid of any ideas in the final third and produced nothing of note. The only exception would be Boggy's tame header into the goalies hands.....admittedly a difficult chance to take with the way it arrived to him.

Speed does need more time to get his methods across, that is true. But he also needs about 6 or 7 new players to make it work. We're disjointed and unbalanced right across the park and we have so little goal threat that mediocre sides are turning up and getting an easy three points at the lane.

The one positive thing I can say is that the players are trying and it must be horribly frustrating for Speed because he will be able to see the things that are wrong. The biggest question is how he's going to improve things with what we've got because I'm not sure anyone can. We're just not good enough because we dont have the players its as simple as that. Lots of triers with big hearts but not enough quality and guile.

I'm 100% behind them and I will turn out week in week out. Nothing will stop me going but without any help the manager needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat. I saw nothing yesterday to suggest much will change soon.

Totally agree with all of that.
There are a few things that really worry me, including the total lack of a goal threat, the number of loan players and the squad size and ability.
At present we have absolutely no threat from midfield, I doubt our whole midfield will score very many this season. Monty and Ertl are too similar and although ok at their job, breaking from midfield or playing killer passes they are not. This puts more pressure on the attackers, and at present they aren't performing either.

Personally I don't like having a lot of loan players. Ultimately their commitment isn't to our club, it can't be. It's either to gain experience in order to play for their parent club when they return or to get themselves a contract at another club, and not necessarily ours. I'm sure they'll profess to be totally commited to us, but it's probable that the next season they won't be here so actually what happens to us won't affect their career.
Of course I realise that buying and signing players of the quality of Taylor, Kozluk and France is a good argument for having loans!

Finally, we were discussing just how poor our squad is now.
Not one player is good enough to be playing in the Premiership, and some shouldn't be in the Championship. The 1st eleven isn't especially strong, and the reserves, including the players mentioned above leave us very weak.
Too many good players have been allowed to leave and not been replaced, and for me it's not the ones who have left for 'big' money such as the Kyles that has caused the problem for Speed now, it's the ones such a Cotterill and Howard who didn't suit the style under Blackwell and so left. We simply have too many players of similar ability, and more worringly, very few who can do much to really threaten the opponents or do something unexpected.

But of course, sheepbridge, because we don't think that everything is rosy in the sufc garden, that sun shines out of the backside of the club, we are doom and gloom merchants according to some people.

But hey, BBC Sport stats said we had 11 corners to 2. Please remind me how many points you get for having more corners than the opposition?
