Sharp - first name on team sheet
Done - poor return he's been given his chance up front and only scorer in one game
Clarke - unproven
Lavery - unproven and maybe even injury prone
Chapman- young fast maybe replacement for Done?

I think now the midfield and others are chipping in with goals it's not as vital but stil think another striker should be on the list for Jan - I'd put a bid in for Omar Bogle

Grimsby are quoting a million pound for Bogle. Can't see us spending serious money on a striker with the options already available to be honest

Done hasn't scored enough yet and I think that's partly because he wants to play the role that's been given to Sharp. Done's always happy to do the chasing and hard work part of the game but he was at his best playing primarily as a poacher. He has created goals for Sharp, and he works so well for the high pressing game that even with Scougall doing as well as he did last league game, I still felt we missed him up front.

Clarke will be very useful in games where we need better hold up play and more of a physical presence. That's the main option we lack right now.

I know Chapman ran rampant yesterday but I don't think he's going to get played as a striker very often. He's a winger first and foremost.

I can't see us spending money on a striker in January if things are going as they are.

I think we might look at a proper, no nonsense, big and ugly brute of a centre forward who gives us another option. For me, Clarke is not that kind of player. Who CW will go for........I haven't got a clue.

UTB and FTP.

We are doing well and scoring goals now, but I still think that at some stage in the season there could be games where we'll need the option of a tall powerful target man, who's a good header of the ball to help us grind out results especially on deteriorating pitches.

We've got a regular goals-scorer, maybe even two with young Harry's emergence, and we've now got more pace, but although I think Clarke will have a major role to play, I'm not convinced that he's the guy to fill the aforementioned role when fit.

Any one of Akinde, Bogle or Evans would do for me to compliment what we have. I'd look to use McNulty (and maybe Long) as a makeweight and possibly look at Reed/Whiteman on loan to further sweeten the deal.

Matt Done has two goals so far (v Wimbledon and v Peterboro). He also has a number of assists and Billy of course now has 10 goals. We also have Clarke, Lavery and kind of Chapman (when available) and Scougs (not an out-and-out striker, though now has 4 goals).

Aside from injuries, what's the problem?

How many third tier teams have as many options as we do already? We've got 4 strikers (Sharp, Done, Clarke, Lavery) and Chapman on loan, if we were looking for a different type of striker I'm sure we would have bought him instead of Lavery.

The nice thing is we have options and scoring 3 s 4 s and now a six Sharp has to start as hes finding the net but Done is coming up short with the goods
Chapman s finishing especially the third was sublime the other day and must be given a chance in the league as soon as possible the next home game being the best option
Clarke and Lavery can come off the bench when required when fit enough as theres still 6 months of gruelling football to overcome but its a nice conundrum to have

I have deliberately not used punctuation to wind up the grammar police even if it means a LONGER SENTENCE

I think we're looking for problems that aren't there.

Behind every decent striker at this level there is a selfless grafter.

Just look at Evans/Cresswell a few years ago.

It's not what you've got, it's the way you use it, as the saying goes, and for me our management team are using what they've got just right......
If they think we need more I'm sure they'll get them........:)

Matt Done has only 2 assists this season...

2 is a number.

Fair play if that's true, although I don't think it is because off the top of my head, he assisted Billy's header at Wimbledon, Billy's screamer at Shrewsbury and Billy's goal v Oxford - and this from a partnership that allegedly 'will never work'.

You need constant improvement. It's an obvious area where we can do better. Tufty knows this. Done down the pecking order by end of January.

Totally unfair on Done's contribution I think.

Ok, only 2 goals so far but he's also had some chances and let's not forget he had 2 chalked off in one game. Anyway, so what if he only scores 5-10 if Billy scores 30?
I can think of at least 3 assists so far (see post #18) and I don't know how many other great balls he's played into the box.

Generally runs his jacobs off the rest of the time and is a nightmare for defenders with his constant closing down and harrying.

I'd start with done and bring Chapman on against tired legs

Probably keep done on as he never seems to tire and give Billy a rest

Or bring Chapman and Clarke on with 20 to go to give the defenders something different to deal with ala chief and pesky

It's going to be interesting to see how they're rotated when they're all fit. It's unpredictable at this stage who's going to be first choice.

Totally agree
You can't judge Dones game purely on goals alone. Our game starts from the front with the pressing and nobody does it better than Done. Without him the opposition sees far more of the ball as we saw against MK. Some fans just don't see the good in what he does for the team as a whole. Yes even he will admit he hasn't scored enough but they will come just like they really have for Billy in the last few games

If we needed a striker in January id take someone from league one strengthen ourselves and weaken an opposition side

If they do, fine. But he needs to get a move on. Whatever his other qualities (and they are being exaggerated in my view) we can't have our second striker in low single figures. How many would Bristol's Matt Taylor get in our colours?...

In our last five matches we have scored 18 goals, we really don't need to worry about who's scoring the goals at the minute so long as we keep scoring them and winning obviously. :)
