Optimism was in the air as I walked off the Kop this afternoon.

Its a very unfamiliar aroma, but I'm sure I remember it.

I even heard someone say "we can easily make up the 7 points on Charlton" but i think that was a slightly different smell...

Today was a good day to be on TV. After the pigs result yesterday. A decent comeback and attitude to turn the game around, a half decent crowd (for this division), not a bad away following from Notts County, a good team performance and of course the roof raiser when Mr BT came on.

Agent Wilson , not seen that on many pig threads of late

we needed to win and did

come on all the doom sayers , lets have a response
lets look at the form guide

I must say it is rather boring

Perfect weekend for me, we win Pigs and Leeds lose and we go second. Or perhaps I imagined it, as Radio Sheffield barely mentioned the fact, unlike when they overtook us. Hey ho, let's just quietly continue onwards and upwards and see where we get to. Poor old Beattie though, can he really live up to that expectation! It was like the coming of the messiah when he stripped off to come on!

Was it just me or were all of the other players trying to set him up to smash the ball home ?

if he had have scored you would have heard the cheer in S6 over the grinding of porcine molars :)

Just nice to end the year in 2nd with Beatie and Monty on the pitch.

Lets hope we can get out of this shit league.

Not strictly true, one more game before the end of the year. But even so, there's no way any other manager can get Manager of the Month is there? :(

I have to agree with the sentiment of this thread - it is great to see people enjoying the football at BDTBL again both players and supporters - we are in a far better position than I thought likely or even possible at the start of the season. From my perspective the manager has to take a great deal of the credit. However.... we've won nowt yet, where we go from hear is going to be bloody interesting. Will McCabe back Danny or will we lose the guts of the team in January? There have been rumours over the past few weeks about Evans, Lowton, Maguire, Quinny even Monty. I accept that we are always going to be under pressure to sell when you fall down the divisions but any major disruption to the squad could easily see the recent positives wiped out. I doubt Evans will go because of the court case (but I guess we might lose him then anyway). I could see the sense in accepting a decent bid for either Monty or Quinn, they are both on big money for this division and I reckon we could pick up decent replacements and take some pressure off the budget at the same time but I would be really pissed off if we lose Maguire or Lowton at this stage.

Fingers crossed we manage to strengthen not weaken the squad, then roll on the second half of the season If we can keep things together the crunch away games against the other top teams are going to be brilliant, avoid defeat in them and the Blades are going up!!

What a curious statement! Surely the nice bit is being second in the league. How was that feeling enhanced by Monty being on the pitch? Its as daft as me saying the experience was not spoiled by his brief non-contribution!

Hard to take this thread seriously until the originator gives Super Dan a modicum of credit for putting a smile on everyone's face.

The implied suggestion that Charlton won't (can't) be caught brings a wry smile to the face of anyone who knows football!

As long as we keep the players we want and dont get too many injuries we WILL finish above Charlton

If we want to catch Charlton, or finish top two we need to finish better than we did today. Despite our recent record we aren't convincing at the back, and we should have been 2-3 up with 20 mins to play.

As a club Sheffield United had to face a lot of cold harsh home truth's, and the supporters have had to as well.

I think the events of last summer, have had an galvanising effect, and the harsh reality of finding ourselves in League 1, have given us a bit more of a sense of perspective of where we are, and what is needed to turn it round.

We just seem to be quietly going about our business, picking up wins in a solid and unspectacular style, and look a very good footballing side at this level. Full credit goes to Notts County who i thought played very well, and kept us on our toes yesterday, and in previous seasons that would have been a game we would not have won.

Time for a bit of praise for DW, mate?

Go on, it's the season of goodwill! ⚽

About 75 minutes into the game yesterday, when we were under a bit of pressure, United countered with some beautiful football that led to Quinn backheeling into the path of McDonald whose shot was deflected wide. I jumped up with an 'Oooh!' as normal, applauded the football and then a big 'United! United!' chant went up on the Kop. For the first time in ages, without any thought of looking daft (I sit on the South Stand), I launched into the chant with them, hands out wide, stood tall. As I sat back down, I commented to my Dad 'It's been a while since they've made me do that!'

Yesterday, Wilson and his SUFC team excited me. Whilst County played well at 2-1 down and put us under pressure, I was confident we'd get through and I thought we showed just why we could challenge the dark hoofballers with our passing game. Slowly and surely, Wilson and his team are getting the fans onside and getting them to believe. Credit to him. 99% of us didn't want 'Agent Wilson' but he's winning people over. A chant of 'Danny Wilson's Red and White Army' is surely coming - maybe at Hillsborough in February?

EDIT: Would love Wilson to reply to every question about being above Wednesday with a comment about looking up at Charlton, not over our shoulders. That'd wind 'em up!

Plenty of praise for DW. He has completely and utterly surprised and delighted me with how he has been since he was appointed Blades manager. He might not be the best manager in the world, hence why he has spent a lot of time at this level, but he is open and honest, try's to get the team playing football the right way, comes across as being a genuinely nice bloke and i like him as manager a lot more than most other incumbents of the hotseat at Bramall Lane since Dave Bassett.

Long may it continue.

Maybe the biggest impact it has had for me, is for the last couple of seasons going to the Lane has been a bit of a chore, and i'd began to lose a lot of love and motivation for it, but i'm getting my mojo back, and i think a lot of that is down to DW.

Bang on with that last part!

As a die hard turned part timer who's only been to a few games this season my take on yesterday as a more distant, perhaps more objective, observer was:

Very poor atmosphere given the various circumstances and shows how things must have changed that the regulars thought it was a good atmosphere.

Enjoyable and open game. We created some good chances but didn't have the ability to control or take the sting out ofthe game as we couldn't keep possession.

We have improved since I last saw us but we still don't look good enough to take points off the top teams, which I guess may not matter if we win al the 'winable' games.

We seem at last to be getting some team spirit and genuine shape and understanding back, surely as a result of fewer loan signings.

Notts County are a decent team.

Can't remember enjoying a game as much as yesterday, but might have had a different view had that overhead kick gone in. Key for me is continuing to go quietly about our business whilst continuing to improve as a unit. The lack of loanees must have something to do with it.

Of course, it can all go wrong with the upcoming JTW. Will KM bankroll the losses until summer and give the squad the full season or will any/all offers be accepted and patched up with loan signings again?

Bang on with that last part!

I think that speaks for so many of us.

For me, going to the Lane had, in recent years, become a duty rather than a pleasure. DW and the lads are changing all that. It's a work on progress and much still needs to be done. I think Blades have shown this season (especially given the DW 'special circumstances') that we do, contrary to expectations, have the patience to allow time for change. Unlike the Robson era, I think we can see a path and a purpose this time.

Well done on a great start Danny. A Happy New Year to you and the lads (and to all on S2 4SU)!

Agree with a lot of the posts above and we were saying similar in the pub before the match.

What impressed me more than anything yesterday is we didn't crumble against a strong team as we would have done earlier in the season.

I think the players are starting to believe in DW and his methods. They have a little swagger and confidence.

Let's hope we don't dismantle that in the coming transfer window.

The atmosphere is great in comparison to the last two or three seasons, where it has been poisonous a lot of the time.

It looks like this team is developing a very good understanding and is high on confidence.
Like everyone else, I really hope we don't screw it up in the transfer window.
I'm not too confident though...history is against us.

I hope McCabe is also starting to believe. Our season could well be decided off the pitch in the next couple of weeks. Yes we have players who are paid far too much for this league but if we hang on to them for another 5 months we won't be in this league anymore!

Brownie, that is spot on, he really seems like a great guy. The Notts County game left me with plenty of optimism and we have a great chance of going up now.

Is his past record a concern for some? I wrote this blog http://scandinavianblades.webs.com/...anny-wilson-prepare-for-one-successful-season when he was appointed. Will he break the pattern of his past clubs? Is there something that is happening (or not happening) at the moment, that means he's not going to bring us success beyond this season?

Hmm that is a concern Bergen. The premiership i can understand though because he was a newish manager with lack of experience and probably funds. At the lower level i hope it is down to lack of funds which i accept we have a bit of but we should have more resourses than most now he is stabalising things.

totally agree with you brownie, going to the lane over the last few months has been like goin to the dentist, i.e. a lot of pain and discomfort and havin to pay for the privilege. i much more prefer DWs man management style of if the players are playing shit and need to be told its not done via radio sheffield like adams did
