The ref made a very poor decision and made many more

The foul on Murphy was a definite red card. Murphy was odds on to score when the last defender brought him down. He booked Scougall when the CFC player fell on top of him. Not sure if Higdon's sending off was correct but the left back made a meal of it and was 100% for the rest of the game. The ref carried on making poor decisions throughout the game.

Moving onto a different subject... was McGahey injured?

EDIT: Seen SSN, Higdon's sending off decision was correct. Disappointed that they didnt show footage of when the last defender brought Murphy down before CFC scored the 1st goal. Maybe we will see it on the FLS tonight

Yet Clough claimed Tommy Lee shouldn't have been sent off.

quite possibly the keeper shouldn't have been sent off - probably because both linesmen and the 4th official had all told the ref, via their communication devices that " you have made the fucking wrong decision not sending off Margrietter, so even it up a bit you tosser by sending off Lee"

Game changing decision that the ref got wrong.

I won't lie to you brother. I was concerned a red might have popped up for Georg.

The commentary is pretty good on radio sheff. Think Ican make comment based on that. Plus been to plenty other matches this season.

The ref and linesman missed a blatant handball penalty at the start of the second half. Blades behind the goal wouldn't have seen it but it happened bang in front of me just inside the corner of the penalty area. Lino was 5 yard away from me, he had the perfect view and couldn't have not spotted it. I did want to shout at the f***er to "put your flag up you useless c**t' but thought better of it.

Do you think utd would have won the match without the poor decisions. I agree poor decisions can change matches but that'sfootball

For jumping in with a bit of a wild one seemingly as incensed as I was at the inconsistency of the referee, having seen Scougall fouled but ignored.
clough wont tolerate players getting sent off for stupid challengers like that foxy.clough says he will be fined, when doyle got sent off for a stupid kick at the fulham player last season he was fined and after serving his 3 match ban came back to play a
pivital role in our great finish to last season.will higdon do the same?.hope so but he will have to put in more than he has done so far.

Rightly so, wasn't excusing him, was a stupid challenge :)

Ref clearly based his card on the reaction, but having not seen the replay, wouldn't be surprised if it was anyway.

The smile Jones gave to the Chessie fans when they ran out at the start of the second half suggested to me he made a meal of the challenge.

Margreitter's foul was a red card offence for sure after Murphy had left him for dead but I'd say the ref otherwise did OK and Chesterfield were certainly the better side. United had a golden chance to take advantage of the young lad coming on to play in goal after Tommy Lee was sent off but failed to take advantage till it was too late. Jamal made a big difference but the Blades' midfield men were outplayed by the combination of Johnson, Morsy, Ryan and Roberts, plus O'Shea before he took one for the team. Jimmy Ryan is everything a playmaker should be; he rarely wasted a pass and scored a belting goal.

Jones' absurd theatricals after Higdon took him out were pretty shoddy but it was a crude foul regardless, and I thought the ref took revenge on Jones by booking him later when he hadn't done anything wrong, as well as giving the free kick from which Collins scored, but 3-3 would have been a travesty to be fair. Chesterfield look good enough for the play-offs with such a strong squad to choose from, whereas the Blades, in all honesty, currently don't.

We were well on top before the 1st goal (it was a good one though) and as threebrownstripes said he thought the ref would have given a red to that CFC defender before the 1st goal.

As I said earlier, SSN showed that Higdon's sending off was the right decision. Am disappointed SSN didnt show the earlier decision that should have been a red card for that foul on Murphy

Agree with most of that. Interesting you talk about our 'strong squad' that's cost us nowt. Cook seems to be doing a good job for us.

Not been on here in ages but been today and frustrated is an understatement so decided to come on vent my anger, had a read through and agree with most of what has been said above really. Haven't seen our sending off on Tele yet but it looked like our sending off was warranted from what I saw as Higdon lost plot for a bit and in the red mist went in heavy on the lad who milked it a bit but still an experienced professional shouldn't be doing silly stuff like that. The Murphy incident by the rules of the game should have been a red as he denied him a goalscoring opportunity that in my opinion he would have buried. I think Chesterfields keeper got sent off to even things up a bit as it seemed harsh. Crazy but these are just a handful of the poor decisions today which says it all about Mark Browns performance as a whole, he had a shocker.

No questions that the ref got the Murphy decision wrong. He seemed out of his depth throughout and missed cynical fouls on both sides. That aside, it was disappointing that Higdon made that decision at a time where we had just started to take control of the game.

Arguably more disappointing was the manner in which we played second half. The lack of tempo and this fear of hitting the front man's feet has been a problem all season and makes us really easy to defend against. We didn't deserve to win the game but a draw would have been fair.

All in all a potentially decent derby ruined early in the first half when the ref took centre stage and made a right hash of it!

Brown was ref a couple of times last season and in all fairness wasn't too poor at all. I am sad I keep an eye on who is reffing us and have my preferences and he is neither on my great or poor list or should I say wasn't prior to today, now he's in the shocking list and I hope we don't get him again this season.

Just seen the sending off and yeah its a bad tackle but the reaction from the chezzy player is embarassing

No matter how poor we were from that point on, the simple fact is if their defender gets sent off as he should everything that happened after that changes.

I'm just disappointed in how we reacted to the decision because we let the ref affect our performance and completely collapsed.

And after Lee was sent off we never tested a clearly inexperiened keeper. We should have been bombarding him with shots and crosses straight away but we never got close until the last ten minutes. He cost them both of our goals with the only shots we had.

I rarely criticise Clough but he made too many mistakes for me yesterday. As soon as it went 10 on 10 we had to bring McNulty on and give their centre halves sonething to worry about. We were too slow in possession and I thought Murphy should have come off instead of Flynn. It was far, far too comfortable for them.
