Yes we do need to get out , but its 46 games not 3,we need a striker to start scoring , I believe getting Miller back fit and degeralamo will help with this. EARLY DAYS
Dont panic Mr Mainwaring
Took Southampton 4 terms to get out , but with patience they have returned to the promised land, its what we must do ,stay behind the team and trust we will prevail, we wont be hammering sides every week , no one ever did to get of this league, even man city took extra time and 2 injury time goals to get past gillingham, expecting 5-0 wins as default is an unhealthy point to start from

What does that mean?

It took Southampton two seasons to get out of this league, and in their first season they were handicapped by a points deduction.

4 terms = 2 seasons , before xmas buying , after xmas window

we were handicapped by a judge, and we got more points

the fact is weve competed in both seasons , and will do , eventually again , but no 2 teams/ seasons are exactly the same

we were desperately uynlucky not go up with 90 points , the fact wednesday went up in our stead is what some blades are letting get to them , its heightened the need, understandable , but letting emotion get in the way of judgement

With the 4-2-3-1 formation I am struggling to think if we have the right players to make it workable. I dislike Doyle but I admit he is playing a lot better so far this season but we should have a system that suits the players we have rather than have a system that suits Doyle. You mention Miller and DeGirolamo, at this moment we do not know if they will be the same as they were before. After a long knee injury there are not many players who play as well as they did. I would say out of the long knee injuries, about less than 30% successfully play as well as they did. Going back to the 4-2-3-1 formation and with McDonald gone, I am thinking of the players we have that can play well with that system.

Long
McMahon Maguire Collins Hill
Doyle
Brandy McFadzean

Now we need to find 3 more players who would fit in, one defending midfielder to partner Doyle, central attacking midfielder (or free role) and lone striker. Lets concentrate on the first one. McGinn impressed in the Notts County game but was at fault for Brentford's first two goals, Coady looked nervous at times and too afraid to do anything dynamic. For the free role spot, I cant think of anyone in our squad who has the experience, skill and vision that McDonald has. For the lone striker role, Taylor isnt the holding up the ball type of striker and struggles to win anything in the air (Keith Edwards would have struggled to play in that role). Porter is strong in the air and can hold the ball up but is too cumbersome to be a goal poacher (too slow to react to low crosses), he had chances in the Notts County and Burton games that should have been converted. When we play at home, the visitors know that we are a big club and with fans having high expectations so they have a lot of men behind the ball, let us pass the ball backwards and sideways knowing that our fans easily get frustrated the longer we arent winning in the game. It would have been easier to play the 4-2-3-1 when we play in a higher division than in this tinpot division in which I hate

With McDonald going it seems like its back to square one withe the game plan and that was evident yesterday. It is going to take while I'm afraid.

I agree, we had been preparing a lot in pre-season to make the system a success and now I think we now have to play a different system unless we sign a player who can play like McDonald

Yes, let's try something else. Hoof, maybe? It's time we gave that one a chance.

Purists can't claim we haven't been patient. After all, we've given football three whole games.

Sorry DW, abandon all your philosophies and principles. You're in prehistoric S2 now, mate!

I despair.

If we're honest, we've given football two seasons and three games. The first was excellent and we really were unlucky. Unfortunately, as the quality if the playing staff diminishes to sub-piss-poor levels, our chances of "building something" head in the same direction.

No, I am not advocating hoof. We have, however, been in this league for too long already. Results are of primary importance. Get out of this shit hole of a league. The best way to do this is not to pigeon hole your team into a "hoof or football team", but to play a dynamic style that can be changed to suit a situation and your players.

I still find it hard to understand the status some have thrust on macdonald, he scored 1 goal thats ONE last season , in the run in when we dropped in standard , he was one of the main failures, to hoist him to a level he is not at , just to thrust an argument that we will fail because hes gone .
Name off the top of your head 10 games he won on his own ,LAST SEASON I struggle to name 2

Why do you just keep posting the same thing over and over and over and over again?

Every time someone makes a comment about the way we play you immediately pounce on them and bring up the whole hoofball rubbish.

It's extremely patronising for you to constantly portray everyone but yourself as some kind of knuckle dragging neanderthal who knows nothing about football and is stood in the stand shouting "Gerrit forrard!".

I'm afraid the sad truth is we, at Bramall Lane, have far too many of just those sort of numpties. I want football at S2. I'm sick of the aimless, hopeless, brainless garbage that many of us have tolerated for far too long and some of you seen nothing better. I feel sorry for you. I wish I could take you back to the John Harris era. You'd then understand a little more than you do.

Do you really think DW should re-think his whole footballing ethos to appease those numpties?

There you go again.

A very narrow minded response to my post. Did I ever say that we should play hoofball? Of course I didnt. There are other styles of football and if DW cannot bring in a player who can play like McDonald, then I think we should look to a different style of play that would take the best out of the players we have

Given that we’ve been on the slide since 2009, sold any player that was of use during this time and are now making an inconsistent start to our third season in this division some might feel that being asked to be patient by the Club is a step too far no?

I am a massive fan of the John Harris era. You must have missed my postings about how I felt privileged to have watched the TC/Woody era. Harris style was attacking minded and the passing were long (but accurate especially from TC) or short with a lot of one twos, the Badger TC and Woody triangle were a joy to watch. we didnt really do a lot of passing sideways or backwards (apart from Flynn's safety passes to the keeper which did enrage our fans) also our passing was played in a faster tempo. I would love to see us play like we did under Harris but I fear we might be playing like we did under Billy McEwan (he would always get us to pass the ball all the time despite having players of limited ability and wee didnt have much success and the average attendances dropped alarmingly)

admittedly man city under a new manager are as I type 4-0 up over newcastle playing nice football , however it may have something to do with the 150 million pounds theyve spent, to add to the 260 million squad he inherited. David Wier has started with the remains of a failed play off team a bunch of young lads and some very cheap additions, perhaps just perhaps , it may take a little longer to achieve what Pelligrino is doing, , just a thought.
Hes inherited a spanking new Audi Q7, Wier has been given a y reg fiat panda
