The edge.
It came from the horses mouth last night that if the right player was available then the funds would be available.ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID ANDY REID.He`s available and we know it.Dont let another good player slip through our grasp whilst weve a good chance of signing him.A big financial commitment yes--worth a gamble--yes--promotion candidates next season--who knows.;)

i completely agree. With him feeding chedder and benty we shouldnt be far short for a few cheeky wins

Would love him to come back, the difference he made to the team in his spell here was obvious for all to see. As good as he is though I still see a quality defender as our top priority, we need a leader at the back.

While I agree that I would like to see him back here, he has stated that he wants a move to another Premiership team, which essentially leaves us waiting until the end of January to know if we'll have any chance of getting him.

The problem then is, do we wait until the last minute, potentially ruining our chances of signing other players when he might not even come back anyway, or should we spend the funds allocated for Reid on other players who are available now, in the belief that he probably will get a move to another Premiership team?

It was also plainly obvious that the only way Reid will come back is if he can't find another Premiership club or regain his starting place at Blunderland. I think you could also add any team in the top half of the Championship to that.

If he's here at the end of Jan I will be very suprised but delighted!

but its so annoying that a bit of financial commitment towards him may sway him to sign,so why not try it for christ sake.

My only comment would be - Birchy, Micky, Corky - Stop fecking about and go get him. .

If the quoted 500k is what Sunderland want, then pay the money and take the chance. Its a gamble that we need to take.

I don't think it is financial commitment though, it's down to him wanting to play in the Premiership. Can't blame him for that really.
However, given the choice of playing for us or sitting on Sunderland's bench, I do actually think he would come to us. We'll have to wait til the end of January to see for sure though I imagine.

What about his wages and his reluctance to play at our level until he has seen all the offers on the table?

Thats what Adams gets the big bucks for tough decisions ,as these deals can go through at the last minute.
Does Adams miss out on others, waiting and hoping a Prem club don't pick Reid up at the last minute.
If he does wait and Reid goes to another club on the last day Adams will be left with what is left in the loan market.
Remember how Tonge went 15 minutes before the deadline leaving the club with no time to bring in a replacement.
Its a tough one.

1. Make him an offer with lots of individual and team performance add on's linked to success that he and the ambitious team could bring him.

2. Outline the good stuff about united, make him want to come to us instead of other Championship clubs

If pl clubs are in for him then we can't compete on money, but passion and potential - sell him the vision for the club

Yep I remember it well, turned out to be a good day in the end didn't it! :)

You do know we are skint don't you Swiss? That the potential for the next few years isn't going to be as high as in the last few?

Yes.

But the add on's linked to success mean that financial gains that come with will mean were only paying out the big bucks when the club earns it

Well I hope it stays fine for you. :D Personally I don't think he will consider any performance related if he can get it basic.
In fact our only hope of signing him is if no one else makes him a better offer.

I didn't say what I thought Reid will do, I only said what I think we should do to stand a better chance of getting him.

Let's face it, we need to get fans back to boost revenue. We won't do this with cheap loans (unless they come good) we will with game changers like Reid.

Call it protected speculating to accumulate.

Personally I also doubt he'll come to us if other offers from big payers come along

Can't see Reid fitting that well into an Adams team. If we have got money to spend a decent centre-half has got to be top of the shopping list. Plug the defence and we'll not go down. A decent centre back plus Morgan next season and we'd start to get the foundation's of a decent spine to the team again.

I agree mate a decent centre half is the first thing we need

Agreed that the centre half is a major requirement, but we also desperately need to improve our creativity, and Reid could do this. The other impressive attribute he showed whilst with us was his determination to get the result and the way he communicated this to other players.

I would offer him the captaincy because I believe he'd do a good job and letting him know how much we want him could help to persuade him to make the move, although its clearly going to be difficult. Money isn't the only consideration for every footballer - I reckon Britton's lost out financially going back to Swansea, and Reid clearly doesn't want to turn out for Sunderland reserves.

I also feel that we should definitely try and buy him because if he comes in on loan and then turns out to be the player we all think he is he'll definitely be out of our price range by the end of the season.

As said before, he wants to go to a Premiership side, so no amount of money from us will tempt him. All we can do is bide our time and hope no-one comes in for him. It's a gamble, but when the stakes are this high, a gamble worth going for.

interesting comments.
Yes we do need a solid back 4,but theres a hole in midfield thats getting bigger.
I think Ertl`s done a fair job tucked in the backline, and the new boys may gel at the back.
ANDY REID PLEASE.

My thoughts exactly. As happy as I'd be, I'm pretty sure it won't happen.

Loan window shuts at the end of Feb so it could be along wait?

2 signings promised this week apparentley.
will our prayers be answered?

Does that apply to loans from Prem clubs to other Prem clubs? If so then yes it could be a while until we know for sure what's happening.

prem clubs only have until the end of Jan to get playersin...loan or otherwise.(unless the rule has changed this season but I can see anything on t'net to say otherwise)

Trying not to slag him off before he signs, but I really struggle to see the sense in signing Michael Doyle. I hope the rumours are just that.

But we are now doing 'the dogs of war' approach and as much as I would like to see Reid back he is as far removed from that as Sabella would be.

You can never have enough small, scrappy, non scoring midfielders, Hotto. I can't think of anything this squad needs more.
