The minutes silence for Hillsbrough Disaster

If anyone is genuinely thinking of disrupting the tribute, remember we have a Liverpool player and supporter on our team tomorrow.

As well as a manager who was actually there playing for Forest on the day and witnessed it all with his own eyes. I know if I had been there I would still have bad memories and wouldn't take kindly to the fans of the club I work for disrespecting the moment of respect.

Oi! Gobshites.....NO!!

I was at the top of Leppings Lane (on Middlewood Road) as the whole thing unfolded and while I cannot give a full explanation for the whole sorry episode, I feel I have a semi birds eye view of what happended. As a result of what I witnessed, my views of the Hillsborough disaster would be classed in many circles as controversial but it's amazing how many hold the same view. They tend to keep these views to themselves or mutter them quietly to those with a sympathetic ear.

By now, you can probably guess what my views are and many will disagree, most of who'm probably did not witness what I witnessed.

You may think I am building up to justifying the disruption of the minutes silence. I am not. A minutes silence is a minutes silence and should be respected whatever the circumstances. I disagree with the minutes silence, I have no desire to be part of it, but I will respect it and anyone near me who even thinks about disrupting it will be advised in no uncertain terms to observe it.

Knowing what I know and holding the opinions I do, if I can do it, anyone can.

And should do so!
I hear what you are implying but the result of what may or may not have kicked off outside the ground resulted in the death of 96 innocents already in the ground at the front of the centre pen. It's for them And their families I will pay my respects. But after that my focus will be on my day out safe in the knowledge that what happened that day made it safer for me and my family to enjoy our moment in the limelight in relative safety.

The "always the victim" was apparently started by Man U fans, due to their mutual loathing of Liverpool and vice versa.

It makes me think that Man U fans have VERY short memories as they go bonkers at the thought of Leeds fans doing the "airplane" gesture.

Trouble with all that lot what goes around comes around - just seems pathetic really that fans have to stoop so low when peoples lives have been tragically lost and I include the 2 Leeds fans also lost in Turkey.

UTB
May we concentrate on the game ahead.

Could be some chants from both sets of fans I think so a minute's applause would be better.
Totally disagree. A minutes applause is fitting for a celebration of someone's achievements. 85,000 people should be able to keep quiet for a minute in respect to 96 football fans who died. Those who can't should be highlighted and banned by the club. We all have smart phones, and I for one would have no problem sticking a photo up of anyone singing anti-Liverpool songs mocking those that died . No club needs morons like that representing them.

Blades + Beer + any reference to Hillsborough= not a good mix. I just hope that their numbers will be so small that they won't be heard. It's be the mother of all embarrassments if the blades were the club to disrupt a silence.

There seemed to be a bit of confusion today about whether to applaud or not. Some people started, then realised they'd have to do it for the full minute. Anyone know if it was a reaction to anyone being a dick?

I think it's just that some people can't control themselves for 60 seconds.

The names of the victims all displayed around the ground during the tribute... Impossible not to be moved. *gulp*

From where I was stood the clapping started almost immediately after the whistle. Had a few stupid chants leading up to it, so i think it was mostly a pre-emptive clapping to drown out any dicks.

Clapping for the likes of the Hillsborough disaster is just wrong, IMO.
Silence all the way, IMO

There wasn't really any confusion for anyone with half a brain. The stadium announcer clearly stated there would be a minute's silence, but everyone started clapping. Why?

Where I was sat (537) one person about 10 rows in front started clapping, then everyone else round joined in

We were in block 548. Heard some wankers beginning something at the back. Clapping started to drown that out.

Think it was a better idea to clap and drown out the spiteful brainless chimps who want to bellyache and show that Sheff United are a wonderfully supported side by all.

But ... I think it's time we stopped all this hand wringing now regarding Hillsborough. We know 96 innocent fuckers lost their lives and it was avoidable. Now cut the violins and get to the point of finding out who was to blame, what went wrong and what lessons are learned. Dragging the proceeds out with endless tributes about the victims is not going to alter the outcome one bit if we can focus on the facts. The day was a fucking tragedy. We need to find out why.

Hillsborough was an awful tragedy, there's no disputing that and as has been said those who died were wholly innocent, decent football fans.

However 56 people died at Valley Parade four years before and it never seems to get a mention, nor the 39 killed in the Hysel Stadium in the same year. I'm all for compassion and respecting the anniversary, but a bit of consistency wouldn't go a miss. :(
