Been reading in the paper about L**ds plans to buy back Elland Road. Apparently the new owners see it as in the best interests of the club.

To draw comparisons they did effectively very similar to what we did as you all know. They ended up in League One and were in financial trouble therefore offloaded the stadium and leased it back in order to stave administration the only difference is that we haven't done this for the same reasons??? Apparently McCabe saw it as a sound business move as any potential investors would be able to invest directly into the football team itself rather than any operating costs eg academy & stadium.

So who does benefit really in our arrangement? And this is an honest question because I honestly don't know the ins and out's and in my opinion Bramall Lane belongs to Sheffield United Football Club and shouldn't be under the sole ownership of Kevin McCabe as his PLC's.

The new owners in a nutshell say the same thing, that it can only be in the best interests of a football club to own it's own stadium. The stadium itself can be used to generate income for the football club on all levels.

Which leads me to another question......

It seems that as part of taking Elland Road back to Leeds United football club it seems the investment deal behind it might lead to a renaming / rebranding of the stadium. Therefore it begs the simple question....Are we happy for Bramall Lane to be owned by Kevin McCabe and his PLC's (if that is the case) in order for the ground to keep it's traditional name? Would you be happy for it to be returned to the possession of the Football Club if it meant losing The Name belonging to the Oldest professional football ground in the world. It would be nothing short of lunacy and a mockery in my opinion to see our beloved Bramall Lane lose it's name to some energy drink or something.

So who is right in all of the above?

  • Is McCabe right and is it in the best interests of the club to seperate the assets from the Football Club itself in order for all incoming investment to go directly to the team?
  • Was the whole move simply a safe guard in order for McCabe to protect his long term investments into the football club and ensure he gets something back?
  • Are the Leeds United owners acting solely in the interests of the football club or are they simply looking to rebrand the stadium and sell it's history in order to create another revenue stream?
I'm not suggesting in any way, shape or form that any of the above is actually correct, I am very sketchy on it all therefore please feel free to point out any in-accuracy along with your own opinions.

The middle one.:)

One of the reasons the new owners at Leeds want the ground back is because Uncle Ken has mortgaged two years worth of ST money to pay for upgrades to all the corporate areas, but, of course he doesn't own the ground, never owned the ground nor even knew who the owners were.....:D so in no way stood to benefit from the increased income himself .

Big difference, Leeds entered a sale and leaseback arrangement with an investment company whereas Bramall Lane is effectively still owned by the same person as the football club.

Leeds had an agreed buy back price in the sale agreement but when the time came to exercise their option they were unable to raise the finance to complete the purchase and when cap in hand to Leeds City Council for a loan which was ultimately not forthcoming.

I believe that we have just as much stability in our present situation as we had prior to the reorganisation of the football club balance sheet. Whatever the nuts and bolts nothing can happen without the say so of the McCabe family whereas Leeds are in Coventry City type situation and the buy back of their stadium is of major importance to them.

  • Is McCabe right and is it in the best interests of the club to seperate the assets from the Football Club itself in order for all incoming investment to go directly to the team? Ummmmm I don't see a big queue of investors in the Bramall lane car park, ands we all know when Kev is lying ....................... yeah when his lips move. Meanwhile other clubs with far less potential can attract interest, not really rocket science is it.
  • Was the whole move simply a safe guard in order for McCabe to protect his long term investments into the football club and ensure he gets something back? This is the one for me also, nice revenue streams straight into Kev's pocket from the hotel, the offices and any other commercial activity at the lane, not to mention the rent.
  • Are the Leeds United owners acting solely in the interests of the football club or are they simply looking to rebrand the stadium and sell it's history in order to create another revenue stream? I don't give a flying one about Leeds but surely it makes sense to own your stadium, who in their right mind would risk investing in a club that has no assets and on top of everything else has to pay interest above the bank rate and ground rent to it's owner ??? Should we get new owners would they need to ask Rotherham if we can play at the NewYork stadium a few years down the line in much the same way as Coventry have had to go begging to Northampton ?

Stopped singing coventry's praises about there new owners offering the ground rent free for 3 years Metalblade , and do you still think the way to go is the D.V.S ??
