I was listening to the Radio Sheffield on the way home last night and it said that Nigel Clough has been taking the under 21s to some games, and that is why he didnt appear to be reluctant to give some of the young lads a go in the first team.
I had also noticed that recently it has not just been solely Nigel Clough who does the press work, but quite often Andy Garner and Chris Morgan do it as well, including last night.
It leads me in to thinking that we have a management structure in place where they all seem to work together, and work to the same methodology and thinking, and are although they have defined job titles, i think that is just nominal although they do have focus in specific areas, they are all pretty much doing a bit of everything and Nigel Clough is the leader and organiser out of the little team of 4, and it is organisational skills that is making it work.
I saw a lot of evidence of this in play last night with the ease in which they settled in to a different system, the ease in which they switched systems, and how well the younger players in particular performed.
I also can see a lot of Nigel Cloughs schooling in non league in action as well, as she seems to like what appears to be small squad, but clearly his train of thought seems to include thinking that the youngers players are part of a more general squad rather than marked divisions between the first team players, developmental players and youth team players. This works well for a club in the position where United are at the minute, as we are percieved as having a small first team squad but with the way the squad is managed it is perceptively larger than people realise.
At this moment in time i think that the squad is managed is ideal and will work very well for us, but doubt it will work in the next division up, and definitely will not work in the Premiership which will mean if we go up next season then that will require a slight change in the thinking behind it. I however do think that the way the management team works is the right way for all levels of football as it does utilise everyone strengths collectively, and gives a stronger more balanced management team rather than someone running the entire show single handedly.
It is this methodology of working and train of thought that is now working really well for us, and im not surprised it took about 3 months for it to all really work as Clough needed time to implement his ideas and get them working, as well as bringing in the players and shipping out the players who can and can't work under this type of ideas.
It is also glaringly obvious that the management system and the way they manage lends itself to long termism, and i think that we will see this management team here for quite a few years.
