If we’re wanting to be in the mix come the end of the season we definitely need to recruit somebody naturally left sided & attacking minded in January . We have been been very lop sided with Brooks & JRS been the main focal points for us , though last night with neither of them starting we looked completely toothless .
Playing Hamer out on the left he naturally drifts back central & this leaves Burrows penned back & also restricts Hamers ability for me .
I was thought when we’re linked with Johnson from Celtic that would have been a perfect fit .

The big problem for me is consistently turning over possession when we launch attacks...Burrows,,Hamer,Moore,RND,O'Hare all guilty of not retaining possession last night when we were mounting attacks/counters,so our attacks break down constantly..it's been a problem all season, plus the balls upto Moore hardly ever result in retaining possession.
Barring the 2 goals we defended ok,but need to take care with the ball, but without slowing things down and passing back all the time..Still need to be positive though and try and force it at times, but so frustrating last night with the ball.

I’d agree that we don’t play a natural left footer down the left of midfield but Hamer drifting inside leaves space for Burrows to get forwards and I believe that Burrows stats show that.

We do miss balance but also Hamer has created and scored goals through his role.

Yesterday I think O’Hare was supposed to mirror Hamer down the left and support Moore from the right like Hamer down the left. It didn’t work.

I actually think that Shackleton, whilst doing a job down the right, was exposed as well and didn’t give us that balance.

For me the right also let us down last night

Spot on re Johnson

Is there a new law of football that prohibits left footed players being played on the left wing?

If not, someone must tell Wilder
Inverted wingers have been the norm for at least 10 years, probably much longer, so they cut inside onto their stronger foot with the fullback overlapping to provide traditional crosses (like when Brooks and Seriki were double teaming left backs earlier in the season), you find very few left footed left wingers at the top end of the game.

Even so, after years of having to have left footers in all the left sided positions, it's weird that Wilder has suddenly started to stick rigidly to the idea that left footed wingers only play on the right, Brooks could easily have played on the left in our normal formation to give more cover down the left than Hamer does, with Gus in the middle and O'Hare held in reserve.

We had no quality out wide at all yesterday, Burrows didn't look comfortable as a wing back rather than a full back and Shackleton was tucked in too much, leaving acres of space for Firpo and offering nothing going forward, if we weren't playing proper wingers, McCallum and Seriki would have been better suited to the wing back spots to offer a bit of both.

Good call that GG 👍

We had a turnover of players that was building towards 4-2-3-1. The problem is that we never completed the rebuild, and are thus left with a mish mash of 3-5-2 and 4-2-3-1. The left side, striking competition and centre back competition are needed. Another destroyer type in the middle would also be useful, although we can be happy with Peck's unexpected contribution. We need competition out wide regardless of how they're used.
