First of all, welcome to Micky Adams. A good choice of manager to hopefully put some fire back in certain bellies.
I'm more of a reader than a poster on here and the constant debate regarding what style of football we should be playing is becoming incessantly dull - and the comments made from our hierarchy about how they want to change the face of the club hasn't helped matters.
To me, it's a ridiculous way to choose a manager. Every game United play is going to be different. We need to adapt to each of those games, whether that be to pass more, be more direct, more defensive etc. etc.
Take Arsenal for example, undoubtedly on their day an excellent side to watch. But, what about when they go to Stoke, Wigan, Bolton? They have lost to these sort of physical sides in the last few seasons because they haven't adapted. They needed to match these sides and be flexible.
Birch and McCabe certainly don't help themselves making comments regarding the way they want to take the club from being a hoof side to a passing side. United are known for being a resilient, gritty, hard working side with the occasional bit of flair which is why teams used to fear coming to Bramall Lane. Some of the best games I've seen are when our backs are against the wall and we grind out the result.
Believe me, I'd love to see us play like Arsenal, but we're not Arsenal, we're Sheffield United and should be proud of that. We don't need a 'passing' manager or a 'long ball' manager, we need a flexible manager that can do everything within his powers. Our aim should be the Premiership. Who cares how we get there?
Good luck to Micky Adams. I sincerely hope it works out pal.
