The “flat three”

Can we get shut of this term now, the flat three this year is quite clearly not a flat three, Lundstram and Freeman were often breaking up to and beyond the forwards. It’s a fluid and agressive three, not at all rigid and flat like it was when we first played it with Lee Evans in it (he was the problem).

Our midfield set up in the first 2 games has essentially been a diamond. Not flat at all.

I'm enjoying the midfield at the moment, the wide CMs can give us the same overloads as the overlapping CBs did for us last year. In return the CBs seem to be giving a more supportive role rather than pushing all the way to the opposing goalkeeper's line, they still help in the attack though.
